Aunt Bessie's Morello Cherry Pie
I like eating and in particular I like dinnertime, I like my main course and it is even better if there is a pudding on the horizon afterwards. I'm really not too fussed as to what type or kind of pudding it is, Ice Cream, sponge, or pie are all equally acceptable, I'm quite keen on these milk whipped desserts such as Angel Delight. However if I had to choose I'd probably come down on the side of a nice fruit pie, with or without custard.
Aunt Bessie Morello Cherry Pie
These were recently on offer for a quid in ASDA so we got one. Cherries are one of my favourite fruits although they are pricey so we don't have them as often as I'd like. The bright blue box, which encased the said pie, was embellished with a rather juicy looking pie filled with cherries. I could see it clearly on my plate covered with custard.
The pie is almost six inches in diameter and a good two inches thick which meant it either had a lot of thick pastry or it was packed with delicious cherries. As it turns out it was somewhere in between. The bottom layer of pastry was not quite as thick as the top of the pie which had risen into a dome when heating. When it was in the oven the smell of the hot pastry and the cherries had me awash with anticipation.
I had decided only to have a little custard since I wanted to fully enjoy the juicy cherries. I was not to be disappointed, they were dark red and moist with steam streaming from them. I poured on a little custard and it all looked just yummy. Light brown pastry, dark red cherries and a nice yellow custard. The pastry was easy to cut with the side of the spoon as I went for my first taste.
The smell was just great, sweet and fruity as it should have been, the filling was full of whole cherries which had slightly reduced due to the cooking, the custard was hot and not too thick. The cherry filling was delicious if perhaps just a shade too sweet even for my sweet tooth. It was however the combination of all three masterfull ingredients that made the whole dish work so perfectly.
For a quid I was totally delighted, for £1.50 I would still have been very very happy. This was avery nice pie and I can see how in a lot of American movies they mention Apple and Cherry pie a lot it was just perfect and an excellent end to my meal.
Summary: A very nice and fruity pie
