      Goes well with ice cream!

I love puddings and so when looking in the freezer in my local shop earlier today, I saw this pudding. I love sticky toffee pudding; in fact I would probably consider it to be my favourite pudding. So I was really looking forward to this pudding by Aunt Bessies. To cook the pudding; you can either stick it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes or in the oven for 35-40 minutes; I cooked mine in the oven as I don't have a microwave. It cooked perfectly in 40 minutes. When pulling the pudding out of the oven, I was greeted with a nice toffee pudding. I was really looking forward to it. I had to 'tip the pudding upside down' onto a plate so that the sauce can run over the sponge. I was disappointed to find that there weren't any juicy raisons or dates etc, as you would find in a home-made or restaurant sticky toffee pudding. It was more like a toffee flavoured cake with toffee sauce. So I was really disappointed. I mean it did taste of toffee but not in the way I wanted it to. Once thing which gave me high hopes was that on the packaging it said 'tempting sticky toffee sponge pudding just the way you like it'; this got me thinking 'oh my gosh, this is going to be amazing, but it wasn't L The sponge was soft and quite moist. The top and sides of the pudding were crispy which I actually liked as it gave the pudding more texture. The toffee sauce was nice, although I have had much nicer before. There wasn't enough sauce either, just enough to cover the top of the sponge. This pudding was ok; very filling and great 'warming' pudding, which would be perfect in winter. It went well with vanilla ice cream. Each portion (¼) will set you back 243 calories and 2.3g of protein. You will get 30.8g of carbohydrates (17.0g of which is sugars). There is 11.8g of fat per portion, 4.7g of which is saturated. There is also 2.6g of fibre and .02g per portion. So all in all it is not the most healthiest of foods, but ok as an occasional treat I guess. This pudding (300g) cost me £1.59 which I did think was ok value for money. I was expecting great things from Aunt Bessie, yet wasn't left impressed. I probably would buy this again as it was ok, but just not what I would call a sticky toffee pudding; it was more like a toffee cake. Thanks for reading! July 2012 Xdonzx / xd-o-n-z-x

Its not a good sponge, although sticky toffee part is quite nice

I love all sorts of puddings and hadn't had a sticky toffee sponge pudding for years so thought I would try this one from Aunt Bessie....now I am usually a fan of Aunt Bessie foods, but this time I was disappointed and really was not keen on this pudding at all. It looks lovely in the picture on the box; the sponge looks nice and moist with a thick layer of sticky toffee.... It is described as 'tempting sticky toffee pudding just the way you like it'. Unfortunately this pudding is most definitely not the way I like it. You can oven cook the pudding or microwave. Microwave is actually recommended and it only takes around 3 minutes. When the pudding came out it looked and smelled delicious. I had decided that the best thing to have with it was cold custard and this is what I had. Unfortunately I found the sponge to be far too stodgy, it was almost as though it was slightly undercooked sponge (but I knew this wasn't the case as I had cooked it for the correct amount of time). The sticky toffee part was quite nice, although would be a tiny bit sickly if you ate too much. I would say that I ate about half of the pudding; I didn't dislike it totally but it was nowhere near as good as I thought it would be. I am afraid I would not buy it again. This Sticky Toffee pudding currently costs £1.79 at Asda which is a very reasonable price. However, I am really not keen on this pudding so its only 2 Dooyoo stars from me.
