I do not actually purchase a huge amount of desserts due to the fact that by the time I and my husband have had dinner in the evening we are normally to full for dessert. But the other day whilst shopping in Iceland I spotted an old favourite, artic roll and decided to buy one.

The original raspberry artic roll is made by bird's eye and I purchased the 260g roll from Iceland at a price of just £1.00. The roll is not huge but I thought that this was pretty good value for a dessert.

Artic roll is made of vanilla ice cream which has a swirl of raspberry flavoured sauce running through the middle and a layer on the outside of the ice cream which is then covered in a thin layer of sponge cake.

I remember eating artic roll on many occasions as a child as it provides a good dessert on a budget. But even though it is not the most fancy or expensive dessert it is one that I always really looked forward too.

It states on the packet that a portion is 1/5 of the roll. Now to me this is a little small and we normally polish a whole roll off between the two of us!! But if you was watching what you eat one slice is not overly high in fat or calories. The exact nutritional information per 1/5 of the roll is:
Calories - 110
Protein - 1.6g
Carbohydrate - 19.0g
Fat - 2.8g
Fibre - 0.3g

Obviously this is a frozen dessert so needs to be kept in the freezer until ready to serve. I always take the roll out of the box and its plastic wrapper and leave it to stand on a plate for around 5 minutes as I like the ice cream to soften just slightly. You can then slice the roll easily with a sharp knife into as many or as few slices as u wish and serve.

I was really impressed with the taste of this artic roll it was like going back to my childhood. The creamy vanilla ice cream, sweet raspberry sauce and soft sponge work perfectly together. I find this to be quite a light dessert as the ice cream is not too heavy, it is also not overly sweet so I do find it a nice end to a meal as it does satisfy those cravings for a dessert without leaving you feeling like you cannot move for an hour or so.

Overall I would highly recommend this artic roll as a cheap, tasty dessert and one that I will continue to purchase!
