Booja Booja is a Norfolk based company that produces organic, dairy free and gluten free truffles and ice cream, suitable for vegans and vegetarians. They don't supply to supermarkets so you have to do a little searching to find their products. I've managed to get them in independant health food stores and in Selfridges, but they're also available online.
Unlike the rest of this range that I've tried, the truffles come in a square cardboard box with an outer sleeve. The sleeve is black and gold with details about the product on and the usual "everyone needs a little booja-booja now and then". Mine has a picture of monkeys on labelled No. 5. I got these as a gift so I'm not sure if all the boxes have this, but the number suggests that there are several different images. Like the other chocolates in the range, this comes with a boojagram - a little message designed to make you think. Mine says" Relax: nothing is under control"
The box contains 12 chocolates arranged in 3 compartments. The chocolates are about 2cm square and 1cm deep. They are covered in cocoa and have a rich chocolately smell. When you bite into them the outside gives way with a satisfying crack. Inside, the truffles are dense and smooth, with a melt-in-your-mouth consistency. They taste rich and chocolatey and aren't too sweet. They contain real champagne (an impressive 9%) which gives them a luxurious taste- you can tell they're champagne truffles rather than a generic alcohol.
These cost £12.99 for a box of 12 which is worth every penny. These are a fantastic luxury product and you'd never guess they're dairy free. I love these as a special treat although couldn't justify buying them all the time. Don't think that because they're vegan they're good for you either. It's 68 calories and 4.5g of fat (4g of which is saturated) per truffle so these are anything but healthy.
