Cadbury Light Mousse
Advantages: Low in calories.
Disadvantages: Contains Aspartame.
Cadbury's `anything` sounds good to me, I had often bought the little pots of Cadbury's chocolate mousses but I had never tried the Cadbury's light chocolate mousse.
I seem to be forever eating pots of fruit yoghurt and although the majority of them are good you sometimes just need a change.
Yet again these were another of my discount store bargains and I paid just 80p for a pack of four Cadbury's light mousses, the normal RRP is around 95p for four pots.
Each little pot of 55g contains just 60 calories, so they are a treat that you can afford to eat even if you are trying to be good, I am wondering if they are on the menu for Weight Watchers ? ( If so how many points are they worth?)
Once you have peeled back the foil lid you can instantly see that the chocolate mousse is piped into the pots, each pot has a neatly swirled heap of chocolate mousse tucked inside of it but the pot seems to be a little large for the quantity of mousse. Both the pots and the outer cardboard sleeve can be recycled.
Cadbury's have managed to create a low fat, low calorie mousse that does a good impersonation of the real McCoy. The mousse looks as though it contains plenty of chocolate and first impressions tell me that they have managed to inject plenty of air into the mixture.
We have to accept that this low calorie version is more than likely not going to taste as lush and extravagant as the full fat mousse. One thing imparticular struck me straight away, the deep swirl of chocolate mousse felt quite firm as I slid my teaspoon into it.
The mousse has a strong taste that I can only say reminds me of drinking a cup of strong cocoa, but it is a taste that I could easily adapt to and as you continue to waffle the mousse the taste becomes more acceptable. One quick look at the list of ingredients tells me that the Cadbury's light chocolate mousse contains only 5% chocolate, the remaining taste is coming from other cocoa sources. If you take a look at the list of ingredients for the `normal` Cadbury's chocolate mousse then you will see that it contains 15% chocolate, a substantial difference. Now 55g of chocolate mousse is not going to last long and it only takes a few seconds to empty the entire pot.
I feel that Cadbury's have managed to make this low calorie dessert more than acceptable, although the chocolate mousse is thick it is well aerated and it feels `light` as you eat it. I do feel though that you can tell that it is artificially sweetened but I have no issue with that at all.
The Cadbury's light chocolate mousse contains more or less half of the calories of the normal chocolate mousse, so if you are calorie concious and you can adjust to the slight change in taste and texture then you will benefit.
I have just noticed that Cadbury's use Aspartame to sweeten the light chocolate mousses and I know that many are anti-aspartame or find that the sweetener just doesn't agree with them.
The product contains milk and Cadbury's state that it is not to be eaten by anyone who suffers from a nut allergy.
The light chocolate mousse is fine for coeliacs but it does contain gelatine so that makes it unsuitable for vegetarians.
I personally found that the Cadbury's light chocolate mousse was fine, the portion is small and even if you ate two pots in one go you would still not feel too riddled with guilt.
Summary: I found they were fine.
