Carte D'or Caramel Cinnamon Waffle
Advantages: Fabulous taste, plenty of sauce swirled around, looks & smells very appealing
I can't say that I'm a fan of cinnamon or the smell of it particularly, but I decided to give this ice-cream a try when it was on offer because it was too tempting to resist.
Cinnamon Waffle is a newer flavour in the range produced Carte D'or, one of the more luxurious and prestigious ice-cream brands. They're a company I trust to produce high quality, tasty products and judging by their popularity, there must be something special about their ice-cream.
This is sold in an elongated oval clear plastic tub, so you can see the ice-cream through it. From first looks, you can see the swirly sauce and some of the biscuit pieces on top, so it ticks the boxes for attractiveness straight away for me. The label on the top of the container also has a picture of the ice-cream, along with the description so you know what to expect.
Carte D'or Cinnamon waffle is described as "vanilla cinnamon flavour and caramel cinnamon ice-cream with caramel cinnamon sauce and waffle biscuit pieces'. Caramel and ice-cream goes together very well, but I was a little unsure of the cinnamon flavouring at first. As for the waffle pieces, this is a little different from your average ice-cream bought in a tub but is similar to parts from an ice-cream cone. It's definitely a bit different to average, and it's nice to splash out a little for a something different and unique.
I say splash out because a 900ml tub costs £2.95, which is more than I would usually pay for ice-cream because I tend to opt for plain ice-cream and buy sauce separately. £2.95 for Carte D'or, however, is about average even though I think it's a tad pricey. It's worth it if you consider buying it as something special, because it really is delicious.
Each 100ml portion contains 120 calories and 6g of fat which is about average, or quite good actually considering it's full of flavour. I don't think 100ml is actually the average serving size, because this is around 2 scoops and I usually add one or two more when no one's looking.
The ice-cream is a mixture of beige, white, and caramel-brown, which is swirled around so no matter where you choose to scoop from in the tub you will get a bit of every flavour. The waffle biscuit pieces are sprinkled on the top, nicely rounding off the ice-cream and making it very presentable.
How does it taste? For someone who wasn't sure about cinnamon, I'm a convert. The texture is smooth and melts in your mouth without being watery. The vanilla, cinnamon and caramel blend together perfectly, being sweet but not sickly. There's nothing overpowering or off-putting about the cinnamon, but it's hard to describe the taste. It tastes and smells relatively sweet, rich and smooth. There's nothing I can say against this ice-cream; no nasty aftertaste, nothing offensive.
All around, this is a delicious ice-cream that's different to the norm so it's a bit more special, and tastes delicious!
Summary: A unique & delicious ice-cream that I would definitely recommend :o)
