Advantages: Tastes nice, some say it can be good for you

Disadvantages: PACKED with sugar

At the risk of my opening line sounding like I'm doing stand up, this is a true story....

My Mum and I were offered a sample of Actimel Strawberry drink, I sipped on it and thought it tasted really nice. Just like Fromage Frais but runnier. The sales lady launched straight into her speech out it, did we "know it only has 1.5% fat, how great is that? She has 3 children and she gives them a bottle each every single morning as its good for them etc. My Mum who has never been on to get swept away by sales pitches and who is also a diabetic so knows that most of the "low fat" products out there are actually packed with sugar, asked "how much sugar is in them though"? The lady said she didnt know so had a look at the packet. She then got confused at first as she thought that she couldn't possibly be reading it right, is there really 14.2 grams of sugar PER a little bottle? She was right though, there is nearly 3 tea spoons of sugar in every single little bottle. She would never think to give her kids three spoonfuls of sugar in their tea to start the day yet she had been duped by marketing to believe what she was giving her kids was good for them. Her shocked response was "OMG, they are never having them again", then said "oh, I'm meant to be selling these".

Needless to say we didn't buy any, and I can't see her buying any more either!

Onto the facts though,

In one bottle there is 85 calories, 1.5grams of fat and 14.2 grams of sugar in a bottle. Some people say the "probiotic" in it helps, others say it doesn't. I guess its up to you as to whether you feel you might benefit from it or not, but if I was in need of pro biotics I would nip down to my local health store and buy some capsules which are stronger and not so sweet!

You get 8 in a pack for around £2.60 depending which supermarket your in, although some are doing 2 packs for £4

Summary: Before you give it to your kids, question if you would give them 3 spoons of sugar every morning?
