Advantages: Helps support your immune system

Disadvantages: Expensive

I hadn't tried Acitmel before, I normally bought Tesco's own brand drinking yogurt. However I was advised by my doctor to try this, I suffer from stomach problems and was advised that this could be useful for me. I bulk buy my Actimel in Costco where you can get 12 for £2.79, they are also available in supermarkets and come in a wide variety of flavours including; vanilla, plain, coconut, blueberry and tropical to name a few.

Actimel contains L. Casei (Danone) as well as the normal cultures of lactobacillus bulgaricus and streptococcus thermophilus which are found in all yogurts. The special L. Casei (Danone) culture is specific to Danone and only used in their products. L. Casei in other strains is found naturally inside the intestine. Every little bottle of Actimel contains over 10 billion L. Casei (Danone). The probiotics contained in Actimel have in studies been shown to benefit the intestine and have an effect on the immune system. It can therefore help to support the bodies defences.

Actimel is suitable for ages 3 and over.

Each serving of Actimel comes in a small plastic bottle with a foil lid. The lid clearly displays the use by date. The bottle is coloured to correspond the flavour so strawberry is red. When you peal back the foil you can smell the strawberries. The smell is not dissimilar to milkshake. The yogurt itself actually tastes really creamy and fruity. It has a nice consistency not to thick. You can finish a bottle easily in two mouthfuls.

After drinking this for several days I did notice some benefits to my health, I suffer from excess stomach acids as well as IBS and a lot of foods can irritate the lining of my stomach causing it to produce too much acid giving me a horrible heavy sicky feeling. I noticed that this helped ease the acid in my stomach. It is also low in fat and actually really tasty it's great with a cereal bar for breakfast on the go.

I would definately recommend trying these as compared to just normal drinking yogurt they do make a difference to the way you feel.

I am now going to try other flavours.

Summary: A great way to start the day!
