Advantages: Pleasant Taste, Fat Free

Disadvantages: Artificial Sweeteners

Boyfriend decided tht he wanted to try Danone Activia so I snaffled one of them to review for Dooyoo.

Packaging:

The 4 x 125g pots of Danone Activia Cherry come in a cardboard "sleeve". On the top there's the Activia logo, a picture of a couple of juicy cherries, the "helps reduce digestive discomfort" blurb, a statement that these yogurts are "fat free with fruit, sugar and sweeteners and a couple of other bits and pieces. The bottom of the sleeve contains the usual, ingredientsm, nutritional information and contact details. For more information you can visit the website at:- www.danoneactivia.co.uk

The pots themselves are predominantly green and have "fat free" in white type on the front. The ingredients and nutritional information shown on the cardboard sleeve are repeated on the back of the pot

The Yogurt:

Once you've pulled the lid off you'll see the yogurt which is a lightish pink in colour. You can see small (& I do mean small!) bit of cherry in the yogurt so this product is perhaps not suitable for those of you who don't like bits of fruit in their yogurt.

Price:
At time of writing Asda are charging £1.64 for a "4 pack" of these yogurts. You can also buy 2 packs for £3.

Taste and opinion:

We all know about Danone Activia don't we? If not we should do as Martine McCutcheon's on the television often enough urging us to treat ourselves to some TLC (Tummy Loving Care, for those of you that don't know) in a current advertising campaign.

Not being a person who suffers from 'digestive discomfort' I couldn't say whether or not Danone's claims about Activia are true or whether they're just another rather spurious claim that the food, health and beauty industries put out in an affort to try and convince us to buy their product. So, I'll just concentrate on the taste then.

The yogurt itself seems a little thicker than a number of other ranges on the market. As I "dug down" into it with my spoon I realised that there were larger pieces of cherry towards the bottom of the pot than the small bits I'd noticed nestling on the surface.

Tastewise this is actually quite pleasant. I woudn't say it's a good as a Muller Amore but then this is a fat free yogurt so it's hardly comparable. The yogurt itself is thick and creamy and, despite the fact that it contains our old friends aspartame and acesulfameK that artficial sweetener taste that you get with some yogurts isn't as noticeable with this flavour. In fact, if I hadn't read the ingredients and the blurb on the front of the sleeve which states that it contains sweeteners I wouldn't have had any idea that they were in there at all.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this flavour and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fat free yogurt. Obviously if you're more concerned about taste I'd recommend a Muller Amore every time and if you're avoiding artificial sweeteners then this isn't for you either.
