We've all heard of the 'friendly bacteria' which lives in the stomach and is *supposed* to aid digestion; and nowadays, a whole range of products seem to be cramming both pro-biotic and pre-biotic goodness into their foods. Each company frequently makes up their own name for the bacteria, and with Danone's Activia it's 'Bifidus Actiregularis'. One Activia product which is packed full of Bifidus Actiregularis (claiming over four billion in each pot) is their Fat Free Cherry Yogurt which currently costs £1.65 for the eight pack. It's one of those products which is frequently seen in buy-one-get-one-free offers - so keep your eyes peeled for a bargain.
Flavour & Appearance

I haven't had that good an experience of fat free yoghurts in the past, always finding them rather unsubstantial and overly tasting of artificial sweetener - but how does Cherry Activia shape up? Well, it's surprisingly delicious with a really fruity and almost creamy flavour that I wasn't expecting. The consistency is good too - it isn't too runny and it isn't too thick - there's even a generous amounts of actual cherry dotted around the place which is good too see. The sweetener taste is almost non-existent - which, to be honest, is probably because the yogurt still uses real sugar, and only a dash of the artificial stuff in combination - still, at only 0.1 gram of fat per pot it's very impressive.

The yoghurt contains;
Cherry (11.2%), Oligofructose (Fibre), Fructose (1.4%), Stabilisers (Modified Maize Starch, Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum), Elderberry Juice Concentrate, Acidity Regulator (Sodium Citrate), Flavouring, and Sweeteners (Aspartame, Acesulfame-k).

All in all, I would highly recommend Activia's Fat Free Cherry Yoghurt as a delicious snack, which seems filling and gives you a 'feeling' of healthiness due to all that talk of friendly bacteria. Whether you believe or not in the powers of Bifidus Actiregularis is another matter - but flavourwise, this stuff is very impressive. No, it can't really compete in terms of creaminess with the luxury yoghurts of this world - buy hey, it's fat free, and ultimately a tasty snack.
