Advantages: delicious, low on calories, packaging
Disadvantages: none !
My partner and me have started purchasing Onken yoghurt for our smoothies. Most of the recipes we were looking at online suggested using fat free yoghurts so we opted for 'Onken Fat Free vanilla'. This can be purchased at most supermarkets according to the Onken website. We purchased this yoghurt from Asda for
£1.00 however it is usually £1.20 for 450g.
Packaging
I really like the packaging of this yoghurt. This particular flavor comes in a creamy light yellow vanilla tub. On the front of the tub it has a flower, which is also a similar creamy yellow colour. The yoghurt has a foil lid on it to keep it fresh and then a plastic lid to I guess keep it more fresh. I really like this idea because sometimes we don't use the whole of the pot for the weeks smoothies so we can use it again another day and it wont go all funny.
Appearance of the yoghurt
The yoghurt looks creamy and thick, almost like creamy custard. In fact my uncle bought this by accident thinking it was a custard, I have no idea how he didn't realize it from the packaging, maybe he didn't have his specs on! But to be honest it isn't that far away from custard in taste.
Other information
To be honest, I was shocked when I tasted it because I expected it to be really boring and have no flavor because it is 'fat free' however, it really has so much flavor and tastes like a treat rather than a healthy snack!
What can you use Onken with?
Well as well as smoothies you can put this on fruit, nuts, even buns. Yes buns! I purchased the hairy dieters cookbook and in their buns it suggested adding natural yoghurt. I decided to add this, as I didn't have just plain natural yoghurt. It really tasted delicious; to be quite honest I have never added yoghurt to buns before either!
Ingredients
Yogurt, Water, Sugar, Corn Starch, Lemon Juice, Carrot Concentrate, Thickeners: Pectin, Locust Bean Gum; Natural Bourbon Vanilla Flavoring, Ground Bourbon Vanilla Pods
Contains: Cows Milk
Calories
It has 111 calories per 150g serving and 0.2g grams of fat per 150g serving. This isn't bad at all because of course the yoghurt is virtually fat free and also the pot is 450g so 150g is a fair amount of the pot anyway. So I'm sure you can spare 111 calories or less!
Overall,
I love the taste of the Onken yoghurt, I still can't get over the taste, and also the packaging and price are great too! Really great buy and handy to have in the house because you can add it to a lot of things!
Summary: great for my smoothies!
