      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Perfect for a special treat.

      Christmas sales are a perfect time to try something new for a fraction of the price, and so when I saw the Sale signs in Tesco last night I went a little shopping mad and loaded up my cart with things that I would never usually give a second glance.
      One of the many things on sale was Ice cream and hidden beside the many tubs of Ben and Jerrys stood a single row of Green and Blacks standing in line like soldiers. I just couldn't refuse, after all they make the most delicious chocolate so their ice cream must be good as well.

      About:

      Green and Blacks is an organic brand, so you can be sure that you are getting high quality ingredients and cream and cocoa beans that have not be genetically modified or pumped with hormones.
      On sale this was 3 euros so it is still quite pricey for a 500 ml pot. It comes in a cardboard container with a lid and a white plastic seal underneath which you peel off to get to the ice cream.
      The container is so dark then when I first peeled off the seal and saw the ice cream I was disappointed as it looked much lighter then what I was expecting, I don't know why I thought the ice cream would be black, probably because of the dark chocolate bars I was envisioning.

      The taste however made up for any disappointment I might have briefly felt. It actually tasted like dark chocolate! Bitter yet sweet, creamy and smooth.
      It was a real pleasure to eat, so many times I cant eat ice cream because I find it tastes more like sugar then anything else, but this was just perfect.
      You only need a few scoops though as this is very heavy and like a dark chocolate bar is best eaten in small servings.

      Conclusion:

      For a luxurious treat this is perfect, it isn't that sweet though so if you are more into Ben and Jerrys chocolate fudge and brownies ice cream you might be disappointed, but if you like the flavor of dark chocolate coupled with silky cream and the smoothness of ice cream then by all means try this as you wont be disappointed.

      Ingredients:

      Water, Organic Cream (21%), Organic Sugar, Organic Dark Chocolate (12%) (Organic Cocoa Mass, Organic Sugar, Organic Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin, Organic Vanilla., Minimum Cocoa Solids 60%), Organic Skimmed Milk Powder, Organic Cocoa Powder, Stabilisers (Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum, Locust Bean Gum).

        Delicious ice cream!

        I am not normally one for going in for organic products as I prefer to save myself money wherever possible but when I saw that this green & blacks ice cream was available at £2.50 (usual price £3.99) I just had to get my other half to pick us up a tub as a nice treat.

        The ice cream is stored inside a cardboard container with a wide rimmed cardboard lid so after you have devoured the delicious product in just one or two sittings you can recycle the packaging afterwards too, so it's almost guilt free!

        Guilt free that is until you see that it's very high in calories and fat, this is definitely not a diet product but who cares, throw caution to the wind, grab a spoon & dig in!

        Green & Blacks are a company that make all sorts of delicious chocolates made with organic ingredients and this ice cream is no exception. This particular flavour is chocolate and is made with less air than standard ice creams so that you get a creamier taste with every mouthful. The chocolate is rich and delicious and the ice cream just dances around on my tastebuds. Because this is quite rich I found that just 100-150ml was enough to satisfy my appetite where I could usually eat over half a tub of other ice cream (like Ben & Jerrys) and this is great as it is going to last me even longer!

        Ingredients: Organic Whole Milk, Organic Whipping Cream (18%), Organic Sugar, Organic Dark Chocolate (12%) (Organic Cocoa Mass, Organic Raw Can Sugar, Organic Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin, Organic Vanilla Extract. Minimum Cocoa Solids 60%), Organic Skimmed Milk Powder, Organic Cocoa Powder, Stabilisers (Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum, Locust Bean Gum).

        This ice cream is manufactured in a factory that handles nut, cereal, gluten and egg ingredients so care should be taken to avoid this if you have a severe allergy to any of these ingredients.

        I would definitely advise leaving this ice cream out for a few minutes and allowing it to melt a little and then this makes it far easier to dig your spoon in and take a massive mouthful rather than sitting there bending your spoon in half!

        I love to eat this alone, with wafers and yet more chocolate in the form of chocolate sauce or with hot waffles and a little dash of cinnamon, absolutely delicious!

        This is my favourite Green & Blacks ice cream so far and my other half is now a convert as well remarking how chocolatey and delicious the ice cream tasted.

        I would definitely recommend this product although it's quite expensive so I'd advise waiting until it's on offer if you can resist that long and then just stocking up the freezer, that's what I will be doing! The taste is very luxurious and I see ice cream as a real decadent treat and this one is absolutely delicious and will be savoured by me over the weekend.

          Try it, you won't go back!

          I have just discovered heaven and it comes in a little brown tub!

          I've always been an ice cream fan and though I have to say the best I've tried was from a little ice cream shop in Florence, Italy and no supermarket stuff has ever compared. I love Ben and Jerry's for the quirky flavours and delcious calorific sicklyness, but is it really that luxurious?

          Green and Black's Organic Chocolate Ice Cream was on offer in my local Tesco last week (an I think still is) at £2 per 500 ml pot which is around half price. I bought it as I'd not tried it before, and it seemed like a good price. Green and Black's make great chocolate, so I was expecting a good ice cream... but THIS good??!

          The ice cream is described on the chocolate brown tub as 'chocolate ice cream with bittersweet dark chocolate and fresh cream.' I recommend you take this out the freezer and leave for 10-15 minutes before you dig in... (if you can wait.)

          This, to me, in fact didn't taste like ice cream. Once it's got to that consistency where it's still solid but very soft it tastes like really good quailty dark chocolate mousse you would get in a restaurant. It's very rich, a deep dark chocolate falvour, creamy and soft and oh so moorish! My mum tried some and said it was so rich she would only be able to eat a small portion, I however managed about 1/2 a tub in one sitting. Ooops!

          So the bad news, ice cream is not good for you. In fact, this a probably a lot better than Ben and Jerry's as there is no added bits but it still contains 248 cals and 14g fat per 100g (around 145 ml). So eating half a tub at once is a big no no!

          For a treat I can not recommend this stuff enough. It's honestly the best chocolate ice cream I've bought from a supermarket. Pure luxury.

          This ice cream is suitable for vegetarians, and chocoholics.

            Wonderful product!!

            Dear Community,

            when I went to Tesco to get some sweets and popcorn for our DVD evening, I didn't expect to make such a discovery. The packaging of this ice cream caught my eye and although I had to think twice buying it (3.80 is really pricy)... I finally couldn't resist and put it in my trolley.

            When I came home my flatmates were really excited about me bringing this wonderful ice cream and I think they knew it before. Nobody wanted to have any crisps or biscuits and suddenly even the ones that didn't want any sweet things in the first place were queuing for this ice cream.

            I should have bought more than just one because everybody who tried it wanted some more and then suddenly it was gone. The taste of this chocolate ice cream was simply fantastic because it is very rich and the flavor seemed very natural to me. The smell of this ice cream was also very intense and it almost tasted a bit like rum or Baileys. Another nice thing about it is that it doesn't melt too quickly so that you can serve it with fruit or apple pie without having it running off the plate.

            I would definitely recommend this product to anybody who would love to enjoy a great quality ice cream. The very intense flavor and the great ingredients make it worth the high price.

            Thank you very much for reading my reviews. My English is not perfect so please feel free to help me with any mistakes. Thanks.

              Disadvantages

              It's all mine!

              Browsing the Sainsbury's frozen food aisle this week, I was looking to stock up on my favourite ice-cream of the past few years. Imagine to my delightful surprise when I saw that Sainsbury's had these on offer for half price. HALF PRICE? Did you hear me, that means it is less than £2 per tub!!!! Well, as the frozen food aisle is always at the end of my grocery tour I had to make space, but it was worth it. Three tubs (would have been more, but I was with someone and had to contain myself) made their way into my trolley. I wish I had gotten the deep trolley instead of the shallow one.

              ~~~ Who Are Green & Black's? ~~~
              G&B are now owned by Cadbury (I never knew them when they weren't, who did?). G&B products forms the premium, luxury arm of the company. Unfortunately, luxury means they are expensive than the normal products.
              All G&B products are certified organic as well as being ethical. Interestingly enough, they don't come under the Cadbury's banner like Wispa or Dairy Milk as they have been kept as a separate business.
              Anyway, on to the product. You can find out more at http://www.greenandblacks.com/uk/home.html
              ~~~ The Packaging ~~~

              The product comes in the conventional ice-cream tub. The tub is made out of cardboard and the plastic lid, both are recyclable. The whole packaging is black and all writing is in gold. The
              'Green&Blacks' is underlined with the product name in big bold letters. It is quite eye-catching and stands out against the normal white tub elsewhere on the same shelf. The packaging also tells you that the product is made with fresh cream and dark chocolate for a smooth rich taste.

              As well as 500ml tub, you can also get a 125ml tub which is about 1 serving. The individual tub comes with a small plastic spoon so you don't need to serve it. This would indicate that each tub is 4 servings. Yeah right, not in my house, it's all mine!

              ~~~ The Look & Taste ~~~
              I don't know about anyone else, but I usually have to wait about 30 minutes for the ice-cream to soften before I can serve the ice-cream. I must need to work on my forearm and bicep curls lol.
              Once softened it is very easy to scoop out and I like my ice-cream a bit soft otherwise I can't get the spoon through it without watching it slip across the bowl and usually on to the floor. Well, I'm not wasting it so it is worth the wait.
              Once served, the product is, as you would guess, a brown colour. But it is not the colour of chocolate, it is more a cappuccino colour, which makes it look quite inviting. As I take my spoon through the ice-cream feels thick but soft enough to spoon. In fact it seems very creamy and has a mousse-like consistency. Not something I would expect from an ice-cream.
              Upon tasting it maintains that creamy feel and has the texture of mousse. Apart from water, the next biggest ingredient is cream which gives it this light yet rich texture. It is also chocolatey but not overpowering. Even though it is made with dark chocolate there is no bitter taste that is normally associated with dark chocolate. It slides off of the spoon and goes down extremely easily without leaving any aftertaste. Also it is not overly sweet, so the chocolate taste is complemented well.
              ~~~ Verdict ~~~

              This product is sublime. I have never tried any ice-cream like it and every time I sit down to eat this product I am never disappointed. The smoothness of the product means it rolls off the tongue and down the throat very sweetly. It's like it's not there, like velvet.

              B&G whole premise is organic products and I have never been able to tell the specific difference between organic and non-organic products. Especially when it comes to ice-cream. I used to be a sole Häagen-Dazs Belgian Chocolate fan, but now this product is my chocolate ice-cream of choice now and I won't use anything else, even with dinner guests! My guests have always commented on how it is truly different from any other ice-cream they have tried. What more could a hostess want? ;o)

              At £3.99 per 500ml tub, it is a touch pricey and more expensive than most, but I always look out for bargains if I can and it has organic ingredients which make it more expensive. However I don't think you can better this taste.

              Shame on me, I have just finished half a tub in the interest of this review. Thank god the review is done, because the tub would have disappeared in the next 30 seconds.

                This Might Well Replace Our Ben & Jerrys Nights...

                My Mrs bought us a tub of Green and Blacks Organic Chocolate Ice Cream for a change last weekend. Normally we're fans of Ben & Jerrys though we do have the odd Hagen Daaz too. But this time the Mrs fancied a change and was in a real chocolaty mood - so she opted for this one.

                It's a luxury ice cream in every sense of the word I must say. It's even thicker than the likes of Ben & Jerrys and more chocolate than sugar too. When you take a spoonful of this stuff, it tastes of cream and dark chocolate which is strange as you'd think that'd make it taste like milk chocolate wouldn't you? But it doesn't, it tastes like cream and dark chocolate. It's ever so rich and just sweet enough without overpowering the chocolate taste.

                This ice cream is seriously thick and rich. The texture is similar to Ben & Jerrys and Hagen Daaz but I found it went just that little bit further. We only ate half a tub between us in a sitting which is unusual for us! Normally we demolish a tub this size (500ml) between us. We just found the texture so smooth that it was the kind of ice cream that you put in your mouth and let melt a bit rather than shovel it in. Also note it's important to leave this out of the freezer for about half an hour before you try to get a spoon it - the thickness means this is too dense to spoon when completely frozen.

                I recommend this as a luxury dessert I think. It'd go down really well at dinner parties and you only need to put two scoops in a bowl to fill guests up. It's quite expensive at £3.99 per tub in Sainsburys but a little goes a long way. One tub could easily serve four people very well.

                I also think it's important to note that the ingredients used in this ice cream are all organic. That means that you can be sure that even though you're being slightly naughty indulging in all that chocolate, cream and sugar - at least you're not filling up with dodgy chemicals and additives besides.

                Ingredients:

                  A quality ice crem with real chocolate flavour

                  The other day when my wife bought us the Green & Blacks White Chocolate and Raspberry Swirl Ice-cream, (see other review) she also bought the chocolate tub too, at the time I didn't know they were on special offer 2 tubs for £5.00 at Tesco.

                  I never like to say no to some chocolate, so was happy to have a little scoop along with a scoop of the other flavour. The chocolate ice-cream is a mid brown colour, and looks very creamy, not surprising really as it does contain fresh cream!

                  When you place it into your mouth you can instantly taste the chocolate flavour, it is a fairly strong chocolate taste, although nice, it is more of a bitter cocoa taste than artificial chocolate, or the chocolate taste you get from a milk chocolate bar.

                  It is not at all grainy, but smooth and very creamy, it melts gently in your mouth and is very easy to eat. If you only ate this flavour you really wouldn't want to have much in you bowl, as the flavour can be a bit sickly after a bit. I had a scoop with my white choc and raspberry and all the flavours together complimented each really well. Alternatively, you could buy the plain vanilla tub, and use this with the chocolate.

                  This is definitely a luxury ice-cream which I would recommend to anyone, but do suggest you limit yourself to one scoop at a time.

                    ***About Green & Blacks*** If you?ve ever tried any Green & Blacks chocolate then you?ll know just how good it tastes. Their cocoa beans aren?t sprayed with chemicals and their products contain a higher percent of cocoa solids than the majority of brands, they also use cocoa butter rather than vegetable fat resulting in a devilishly good flavour. Their cocoa beans are also fair-trade so you know the farmers are getting a good deal. Everything about their chocolate just seems so positive. Green & Blacks is a small company based in London and were founded in 1991. They believe that organic products and fair-trade are inextricably linked. Food that doesn?t use pesticides and other chemicals is better for the people growing the food, the environment and also the consumer. ***The Ice-Cream*** Green and Blacks chocolate ice cream comes in a 500ml brown coloured cardboard tub with the words Green & Black?s written in cream-coloured writing, it looks stylish and sophisticated! This product is organic the stamp of approval confirms that it meets the soil association?s high standards. The main ingredient is actually water but the ice cream contains 30% organic cream. Green & Black?s insist that they only buy their finest-quality fresh organic cream directly from British farmers. You might also notice that this is an impressively high percentage of real cream which isn?t always found in some brands of ice-cream. They only use ingredients of the highest quality so there is no compromise to the taste. They also whip less air into their ice-cream which means you get a more intense flavour per spoonful than with most ice-cream creating a dense, rich texture which melts more slowly in the mouth. Unfortunately this means that it is incredibly hard when you get it out the freezer so you have to leave it to stand for sometime before you can spoon it out of the tub. The ice-cream costs £3.79 from Tesco but they occasionally have offers
                    on especially neat the summer so look out for the special offers. It contains 176kcal and 9.8g fat per 100g which isn?t actually that bad so long as you can stop yourself from eating the whole pot! ***The Taste*** On opening the lid a rich chocolately smell wafts out of the tub. The ice cream is a darker than average chocolate colour (the ice-cream is a dark chocolate ice cream). It takes a while to soften but it?s worth the wait. The texture is very creamy and it tastes so rich, a very intense flavour than you don?t get with cheap ice creams. The taste is so delicious you can really taste the chocolate rather than the synthetic flavour you get with some ice creams. It?s so smooth and creamy with no artificial aftertaste either. This ice cream, for me, is not too sweet either it has a perfect balance between bitter and sweet. It is so rich that even after just a small portion you feel satisfied. It isn?t too heavy either but it is seriously chocolatey. This is a truly delicious ice-cream and it comes highly recommended. It was voted the very best chocolate ice cream on the market in the Which? Report of 2002. It is widely available and also comes in chocolate orange, chocolate mint, vanilla caramel nut, vanilla, dark toffee, praline and they also have chocolate ice creams on sticks. I would definitely recommend this ice cream, it will not disappoint! Thanks for reading!
