“ Type: Ice Cream „
The Haagen Dazs ice cream brand began when 3 flavours, chocolate, vanilla and coffee were sold in bespoke deli stores across the USA. Since then it has gone from strength to strength and has added many flavours to its range of yummy ice creams. In 2007 Haagen Dazs began a business relationship with Heston Blumenthal who also had a passion for ice cream.
Haagen Dazs opened its first store in New York in 1976 and since then many franchised stores have opened across both the USA and other countries.
The Haagen Dazs Classic Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream, was inspired by the up beat flavour of New York and is a yummy mix of strawberries and cheesecake pieces whipped into a creamy soft ice cream.
The Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream comes in a dreamy 500ml (though not calorie free sadly) tub or as a treat sized mini cup tub, which has just enough ice cream in it for you to be able to decide if this is the flavour you love most.
Only fresh double pasteurised egg yolks are used in the ice cream and they act as a natural emulsifier, which improves the texture of the ice cream. Then lovely fresh strawberries are mixed with cheesecake biscuit base textured pieces, to make up a wonderful creamy tasting ice cream.
This is a really nice ice cream and its lovely when served with a few fresh strawberries, half dipped into dark or milk chocolate then drizzled with strawberry sauce and served with fresh whipped cream. For an alternative you could also add meringue pieces, which is really yummy with the strawberry sauce.
Other ice creams in the range include: rich Belgian Chocolate, gorgeous Baileys, creamy Vanilla, yummy Chocolate Pralines & Caramel, scrummy Cookies & Cream, Dolce De Leche, Mascarpone, Passion Fruit & Truffles (a limited edition flavour) moorish Pralines & Cream, Strawberry & Banana, fresh tasting Summer Berry Smoothie, Cookie Dough and Cherries & Cream.
The Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream is best stored in your fridge freezer at 0 degrees F/ -18 degrees C. To keep it that little bit longer in the freezer (not that you will, as its too yummy to resist) store it at -10 degrees F / -23.3 degrees C or colder.
The mini tubs sell for around £1.50 and the full sized 500ml tubs are priced at
around £3.99 so the product is set amongst the mid/ to higher priced range of ice creams in most supermarkets.
Giving this ice cream a whopping 5 stars as its a creamy, fresh tasting ice cream thats a rival to Haagen Dazs' Baileys Ice Cream.
I received a tub of this ice cream free so I devoured it over the last two nights...!
The packaging is quite good as its round so its easy to eat straight out of the carton. There is a secure lid so its easy to store and keep fresh once opened. However when you first open it there is a film which you have to pull back but this is easy enough to do.. The carton is made out of a cardboard material and the lid is plastic but both are recycable...
They do come in two sizes which are either 100ml called a mini cup or a 500ml which I know cost £3.99 (I'm unsure about the mini cup size though) It is expensive for the size so definitely an ice cream treat...
As for the flavour.. its lush! the pieces of biscuit seem quite hard to begin with but they just melt in your mouth... there is also the strawberries which are delicious too... the best bit is that they don't skimp on either of them! The vanilla ice cream is nice and creamy too so it feels very luxurious....
Haagen Dazs (that is right it is spelt wrong on Dooyoo) is a brand of ice cream that was invented in 1961 by two Polish immigrants in New York. The name despite many assumptions doesn't actually mean anything, it was given the name for foreign branding and the aim was to make the product seem Scandinavian. The brand originally started with 3 flavours, chocolate, vanilla and coffee and has now expanded to many flavours (of which most won't be found in your supermarket in the UK). In 1976 the brand opened its first store in New York and has since franchised many stores throughout the USA and other countries. You may also find Haagen Dazs fruit sorbet, frozen yoghurt and ice cream bars, although they are not widely stocked in this country.
Strawberry Cheesecake Haagen Dazs is exactly what it says on the tin (or should I say tub), soft biscuit pieces with strawberry sauce in a very creamy ice cream. It comes in a 500ml cardboard tub and to be fair the ice cream is filled up to the brim. As soon as you open the tub you can immediately see the strawberry and biscuit pieces and the ice cream looks extremely creamy. Now if you are like me you will attempt at picking out the biscuit pieces and strawberry pieces separate to the ice cream like a big kid, although all of the ingredients go very well together. You won't be disappointed at the amount of strawberry and biscuit in the tub as with many other ice creams there is a lack of the extra ingredients, but you won't be able to take a scoop without having some on your spoon. The strawberry tastes exactly as I remember the strawberry sauce you would find on a cheesecake which is absolutely exquisite and the biscuit reminds me of shortcake which isn't a bad thing at all and although it has been sitting in ice cream for a while it is still crumbly as opposed to soggy.
Now I challenge anyone to find a better tasting ice cream to Haagan Dazs and if you think there is the you are just plain wrong :P. Stawberry Cheesecake is the perfect treat and I say treat very forcibly, I would by no means suggest this as an everyday necessity as you will be left penniless and would have a body similar to a great white whale! With a 500ml tub costing you around £3.78, I doubt this is something many people could afford everyday. The nutritional information is a killer as well as seen below is based on 100ml -
Of which sugars 19.2g
Of which saturates 8.4g
Now I imagine like most I am unable to open a tub of this without finishing it all (I hope I am not the only one!), which with the fat content is certainly not going to help you stay healthy, that is why I would only recommend this as an occasional treat.
I love this ice cream and would definitely say it is my favourite out there, I love strawberry cheesecake anyway and this ice cream just puts strawberry cheesecake on a new level. The only reason I am missing a star from this review is due to the price of it, I can't really complain about the fat content as you wouldn't expect much else from something this tasty and creamy! I would absolutely recommend this to any ice cream or cheesecake lovers out there, I don't think you will have any complaints (other than the price and fat content). If you really don't think strawberry cheesecake will be your cup of tea I would recommend trying one of Haagen Daz' other flavours as they are really in a league of their own when it comes to ice cream quality. I try and keep my Haagen Dazs consumption to a minimum if ever want my daughter to eat, but when I do have it I need some quiet time to enjoy this ice cream wholly. Gents this is a perfect treat for your partners as well and always goes down well.
Oh I almost forgot all of Haagen Dazs ice cream is suitable for vegetarians, which you won't find on the tubs!
Sweet, ripe strawberries and delectably moist cake pieces combine in a bed of pure vanilla ice cream for a delicious summery treat. Total Fat: 14g, 22%.
