Advantages: Lovely Texture, Taste and Aroma
Disadvantages: Pricey
The Mrs and I do get through more than our fair share of luxury ice cream it has to be said. There are few brands more luxurious than Haagen Dazs and at the moment, instead of paying the full price of £3.99 per tub you can get two tubs for £5 in Sainsburys. We've stocked up on a few tubs just in case of summer evening emergencies and the first one we've had our spoons in is the Belgian Chocolate flavour.
The texture is really thick so it's best to leave this to stand on the side for about half an hour before you get stuck in. Otherwise you'll probably find your spoon gets stuck! Much better than those cheap aerated soft scoop ice creams where they make 500ml into 2lt by inflating it. When it's had chance to thaw slightly, you'll still find the texture of this really thick - it's just that you can then get your spoon into it.
The smell of this is really deep and rich and you can tell they've used good quality ingredients to make this ice cream. The taste isn't quite so chocolaty as it is creamy though - it's a really nice blend between the two. This is a very sweet dessert so ideal for those who like sugar every bit as much as they like cocoa I think. The texture of the little Belgian chocolate flecks makes this all the more tasty too. There are literally hundreds of the chocolate flecks so there's no need to worry about someone getting a short serving like you do with some desserts. They heap plenty into every tub.
This really is a lovely ice cream. The texture is thick but smooth and the taste is rich and creamy. This isn't as indulgent as some of the chocolate luxury ice creams on the market but it's certainly just as nice for when you want a creamy sweet taste over a sludgy gooey one. Normally this costs £3.99 for a 500ml tub and one tub serves two to four people.
Summary: I only wish we'd bought more of this flavour!
