Advantages: yummy!
Disadvantages: price, calories
Even though I am a chocoholic and I love ice creams, I never got my head round to trying Haagen Dazs Belgian Chocolate ice cream. Then a friend of mine visited me yesterday with a tub of it and I immediately understood what I missed for all these years.
This ice cream comes in 500 ml tub, half of it is red, the other half golden. It also has a little picture of chocolate. You will definitely recognise it in the fridge as Haagen Dazs tubs are quite characteristic.
Before you get to the ice cream, you don't only need to open the lid but also remove a layer of foil - something like cling film, but thicker. This is definitely an avantage - I like to know that my ice cream is 'safe' in the store.
The ice cream itself is simply brown and you can see it has a lot of chunks in it. You need to take it out the fridge and wait for a couple of minutes before you can put a spoon in it, but compared to Ben & Jerry's defreezing Haagen Dazs doesn't take that long. The ice cream itself is extremely rich and chocolatey but it isn't sickly sweet (it was a bit of surprise for me to be honest). It is creamy and smooth, and there are plenty of chocolate chunks (you will find quite a lot of them in each spoonful). They are very small, so there is no need to chew.
One serving of 100g provides 286 calories and 18.6g of fat. It is also quite expensive - one tub of 500 ml costs around £4.00.
I am sure that all chocoholics will enjoy this ice cream. I am definitely going to buy it again, but I will wait until it is on offer.
Summary: a very good ice cream
