“ Type: Sorbets & Ice Cream „
After some initial small talk I soon realised with a mild sense of shock the cheap discount ice cream she was about to buy. I enquired gently whether she had ever tried Haagen Dazs Chocolate Chocolate Chip ice-cream. I told her that she wouldn't regret it. I went on to explain that although this ice cream was available in Asda, it was still considered by many to be a luxury brand as was evident by the luxury price tag attached. I went on to tell her that Haagen DCCC is a delicious ice cream with a "perfect combination of pure, sweet cream and decadent Dutch cocoa". It possesses a fully creamy texture that is smooth and richly oozing with a potent chocolate flavour. Furthermore, the 500ml tub ice cream is sprinkled throughout with funky chunky chocolate chips. However, at nearly £4 a tub this ice cream was in no way as cheap as chips. Juliette looked a bit puzzled at this last expression.
"But what about the calorie content?" she asked me, "I av tu keeep an aye on deeese lurv haandells you know". Looking down I realised JB was only being modest and after a little chuckle I admitted that it was true that too much Haagen can certainly pile on the kilos. It is ice cream after all. In the end though, we both agreed that everyone deserves a little luxury now and again.
I don't know how long we'd been chatting but I noticed the tub of Olive spread that I'd been holding was starting to melt, so I bid Juliette farewell and wished her well for her next movie or whatever...
About a week later I received a phone call from her in which she declared "J'adore Le Funky Chunky Chip!" She was so surprised at finding so many chocolate chips in her recently purchased tub of Haagen Dazs and that she simply adored the rich chocolate flavour of the ice cream.
Well, I had been planning to write about my favourite ice cream – Haagen-Dazs Cookies and Dough, but when I went to the freezer to get my tub this morning, the majority of it had been stolen, leaving me with barely a taste! So my fiancé has kindly donated his tub of Haagen-Dazs Choc Choc Chip ice cream and it is this that I am going to review. Haagen-Dazs makes beautiful ice cream. It contains fresh cream, so it always tastes lovely, rich and creamy. The Choc Choc Chip variety features 10% chocolate chips, chocolate liqueur and 3.5% cocoa – so it’s pretty chocolatey! The ice cream is brown in colour, as you would expect, with a generous amount of chocolate chip pieces. Although the main part is quite tasty, the chocolate chip pieces are slightly bitter for my taste. I like the combination of textures, but overall, it reminds me of dark chocolate – and I’m definitely a milk chocolate fan myself. Haagen-Dazs ice creams are suitable for vegetarians (hooray!), but not vegans as they contain milk and eggs. It doesn’t say how many calories there are in a tub, so that must mean there aren’t any then! (Ha!) The main disadvantage to decent ice creams is that they are expensive. A tiny tub of Haagen-Dazs contains 500ml of ice cream and costs around £4 each! A tub usually takes me two sittings to finish it off and there would certainly be no point in trying to share one tub between the six of us, as we’d only get a couple of spoonfuls each! So this is a definite luxury. Blockbuster video sometimes do deals on Haagen-Dazs when you rent videos, so look out for those as well as any buy one get one free offers in your local supermarket. Stock up while you can and save some money! I have tried quite a few Haagen-Dazs flavours. I really like the Baileys one, I wasn’t too keen on strawberry cheesecake, the vanilla was surprisingly good and the cookies and cream is my favourite
– and one day, I might manage to get through a whole tub and tell you about it! I don’t mind the Choc Choc Chip, but it isn’t one I would choose (and I didn’t, my fiancé bought it for him!). I do find it rather bitter and not nearly as yummy as the cookies and cream variety. But it is chocolate, it is ice cream and it is Haagen-Dazs, so it’s not all bad ;-)
"This is an absolute delight for the chocolate lover...an intense chocolate taste plus the satisfying crunch of pure, sweet chocolate chips. Truly, this is a flavour greater than the sum of its parts. Häagen-Dazs chocolate chocolate chip ice cream is the perfect combination of pure, sweet cream, decadent Dutch cocoa and rich chocolate chips. an ice cream experience for those who appreciate the true essence of chocolate."
