      Advantages

      Disadvantages

I would definitely recommend this to all strawberry ice-cream lovers!

Despite its Scandinavian-looking name, Häagen-Dazs was actually established in New York in 1961. Today, Haagen Dazs is widely associated to be a successful premium (though commercial) brand of ice cream, selling their pints in stores/supermarkets as well as having their own stand-alone shops, in which you can order ice cream by the scoops or in their very own creations.

Ever since I was a child, Häagen-Dazs has always been a treat to me, and I used to only be able to have it if I did well in my examinations or had some other achievement to boast! Of course, today, I can get it whenever I want.. but it always brings back pleasant memories. Häagen-Dazs comes in many common flavours - variants of chocolates, vanilla, strawberry - but it also comes in some more exotic ones including Baileys, rum & raisin, dulche de leche, just to mention a few. But of all these, the Strawberry flavours stands out on its own - for its creaminess, and its authentic flavour.

      PACKAGING & COST
Häagen-Dazs ice-cream, if bought from the supermarkets, typically comes in two sizes - the larger 500 ml of the 125 ml ones. The larger ones are typically priced at 4.45 pounds (sometimes with offer it goes to 3 pounds), which makes it pretty comparable to that of Ben and Jerry's (typically about 4.49 pounds, although with offer it can go as low as 2.50 pounds). The pint is the typical Häagen-Dazs container, nothing particularly special, with your standard ice-cream cap. What's nice about this (compared to B&J) is that there's actually a 'protective' layer underneath that seals the ice-cream in, so it feels slightly healthier.

      THE ICE CREAM ITSELF
I am especially wary about purchasing strawberry ice cream, because it is usually artificially coloured and flavoured. It drives me sick how ice cream companies try to sell a pink mash of sugar as 'strawberry ice cream', or if they just have vanilla ice cream with some strawberry jam topped on it. I want real strawberries, with a clean, pleasant flavour - and this is what Häagen-Dazs Strawberry ice cream offers. The ice-cream itself, having a high proportion of cream, is undeniably creamy, and there are decently-sized strawberry bits in there to enhance the authenticity of the ice-cream's flavour. It goes especially well atop some waffles or pancakes because it's so creamy and strawberry-ry. One thing that I also like very much about Haagen Dazs ice cream is that it's denser than most other ice-creams (though not as dense as Green and Black's), so you aren't getting much of the air (or the ice bits), and it feels like you're getting your money's worth!

      NUTRITION
I have to admit that Häagen-Dazs ice cream is no angel to your health. It's yummy alright, but it comes at a cost of 215 kcal and 13.4 g of fat per 100 ml, which makes it one of the more unhealthy snacks that you can have. As a post-dinner dessert, it's probably fares even worse just because it's actually quite a heavy dessert to have after a presumably heavy meal. What is most important is that you have this is moderation - as a small treat to perk yourself up - and you will be able to enjoy this much better as well.

      CONCLUSION
I only wished this flavour is available more frequently in supermarkets? I hardly see it around, but I've gotten it in stores and outside the UK. It's a very lovely flavour, tantalising to all your senses.. just not the healthiest thing in my fridge, I guess!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Haagen Dazs is in my opinion one of the best ice creams I have ever tasted, partly because it is exactly that- iced cream. Unlike most ice cream products you can buy in supermarkets which have mainly vegetable oil in them (that's non-milk fat by the way) or 'reconstituted dried skimmed milk powder' (ugh!) Haagen Dazs actually contains a large amount of cream; which makes the flavour truly creamy without pretence. The reason I like the strawberry variety is because it actually contains real pieces of strawberry and none of this 'strawberry flavouring'. Artificial strawberry flavour is all very well, but it doesnt really taste anything like actual strawberries themselves. These are real pieces both in the ice cream and blended in the mixture to give it a really good flavour. You've tried all of the mock ice creams no doubt, so now it's time to try a true ice cream. Of course, you do however have to pay for your quality products, and unless you have find a really good offer, you'll end up paying at least £3.29 up to about £3.99 per tub... but it is worth it...and if it's just you, I'd hope it would last for at least 3 sessions. I'd say roughly 8-12 scoops depending on the size per tub... but it's worth every penny.
