I am a brand new member to Dooyoo, but I have been reading other peoples reviews on products for a while now. I have been meaning to join for a while now so I can make my own reviews to share with you all, so today I finally kept the packaging of this cheesecake and savoured every bite so I could tell you guys about it!
~ Price and availability ~
This cheesecake is only available in Iceland stores or at www.iceland.com. It is an extremely reasonable price at only £1.00! These days you can't usually get a half decent dessert for that kind of price so it's a truly indulgent bargain!
The packaging for this sticky toffee cheesecake is now updated from the one Dooyoo is showing. I think the new design is actually much nicer! The box is no longer plain orange, It has white and caramel coloured stripes to go with the toffee theme. There is an image of the delicious looking cheesecake on the front with a piece cut out of it to reveal it in all its gloopy glory! It clearly shows the different creamy coloured layers of base, cheese, caramel, cream and toffee sprinkles. The price is also displayed clearly on the front as is the name of the product and a label stating it's an improved recipe which maybe explains the revamp in the box design. I am also instructed to keep it frozen and told the use by date in the corner which is actually very reasonable but as it's a frozen dessert it wouldn't really matter. The back of the box states various bits of information including nutrition, storage, defrost instructions and ingredients (which I will come to at the end.
**The box is made from cardboard which can be recycled of course!**
~ The product it's self and the most important TASTE! ~
On opening the product (which was actually very easy to do) you don't really get a smell. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get any toffee smelling aromas but the taste defiantly made up for that. Sliding the cheesecake out of the box you notice it's in a deep foil tray which is unfortunately a little bit of a battle to release from the cheesecake, I had to get my scissors. From this point on you can already tell you have value for money as the cheesecake is really quite a decent size and thickness. It's recommended to serve 6 but of course that depends how greedy you are. I cut it into six equal portions quite easily and served to my family (some chose to add pouring cream but I didn't because I wanted to make sure I tasted it in its 'natural' state :D). Plunging your spoon into the cheesecake you can feel the soft oozy layers glide onto your spoon, I have to say the cheesecake did look a little too nice to eat as it had such perfectly piped cream. Putting the cheesecake into my mouth I was hit with an extremely sweet taste sensation. Which I love as I have a HUGE sweet tooth! All of the flavours complimented each other perfectly; I especially enjoyed the toffee sauce that was generously drizzled on top of the toffee flavoured cheese. The base was quite thin, but was crisp. The only thing that let this down ever so slightly was the artificial tasting cream, I'm not sure it was needed as it just tasted like air, but hey the other flavours made it up for me.
~ Other important bits of information you may or may not want to know~
The whole product weighs in at 455g
There are 240 calories per 1/6th of the cheesecake as sold
It contains egg, gluten and milk and may contain nuts. Although it is suitable for vegetarians
Takes 4 hours to defrost in the fridge or 2 hours at room temperature
~over all verdict~
I think this cheesecake is scrummy! It so worth the £1 you pay for it and maybe a little bit more. My family thought so too, who cleared their plates. It's deliciously creamy but I don't think people who don't like sweet things will get as much satisfaction out of eating this as I did because it IS very sweet. It's definitely one of my favourite shop-bought cheesecakes, it has just the right amount of everything and it all goes so well together!
Summary: Very, very yummy cheesecake! A must try for toffee lovers
