      mmmm ice cream!

Jennie's is a company offering ice cream and frozen desserts. ~Ice Cream~ There are 4 flavours of ice cream available from Jennie's - cornish, chocolate, strawberry swirl and toffee. The toffee ice cream is described as "toffee flavour ice cream rippled with toffee sauce". This ice cream is suitable for vegetarians and the toffee sauce makes up 12% of the ice cream. The ice cream is presented in a clear, plastic tub with a click on lid. The tub can be recognised by the dark red label and a bowl full of delicious scoops of toffee ice cream. As you would expect, this ice cream is not suitable for those who have an intolerance to milk products. An average scoop (approx 51g) contains 85 calories, 9.4g of sugar and 1.5g of saturated fat. This ice cream can currently be purchased in Tesco supermarkets for £1.25. The usual price is £1.49 for a 900ml tub. ~My Thoughts~ You may be wondering why I am reviewing ice cream in January - well I always like to have a tub in the freezer for when I am in the mood for some ice cream! I normally opt for Mackies ice cream as it is my favourite but it is rather expensive. I spotted this Jennie's ice cream last week at Tesco and it looked appealing so I decided to buy it. I opted for the Toffee flavour as it looked delicious! The tub is easy to open and inside, it is crammed full of yummy looking ice cream. The ice cream is a light brown colour and they do not skimp on toffee sauce as there is lots of it through the full tub! The swirl design is attractive and this ice cream doesn't look any different from Carte D'Or and the likes. It has a subtle sweet toffee scent. Straight from the freezer, this ice cream is easy to scoop with a scooper or spoon. I wouldn't say it is soft scoop ice cream but you don't need a drill to get through it! The ice cream has a lovely consistency and is perfect for scooping on to a cone or into a bowl alone or as a pudding side. I wouldn't say it goes well with jelly (save strawberry or vanilla for that purpose) and my toddler son isn't keen on it so more of an adult ice cream than anything else. The ice cream is perfect to have with apple pie or crumble as an alternative to cream as the toffee flavour compliments the apple well - it's a winning combination in my eyes! This ice cream doesn't taste cheap. It has a lovely, smooth and creamy consistency which melts perfectly in the mouth. The ice cream part itself is flavoured with a subtle toffee taste - lovely and sweet and light. The toffee sauce holds the most flavour and I am so glad that there is plenty of it. It reminds me of the toffee sauce they use in the sundaes at McDonalds but less sweet. It is thick and smooth and blended with the ice cream, gives a toffee mixed with honeycomb flavour. I am really pleased with the quality and taste of this ice cream. It is very pleasing to eat and satisfying. It is perfectly sweet and doesn't become sickly even after a few scoops. The toffee flavour isn't too rich and this ice cream would suit many tastes. It is high in sugar so should be enjoyed in moderation. Overall I can recommend this ice cream. It is worth the full price cost and tastes much better than store branded ice cream. It is a nice treat to have in the freezer. Thanks for reading x
