Advantages: Tastes like normal yogurt.
Disadvantages: Only available in two flavours
Lactose intolerance is fairly common these days. It occurs when the body is unable to digest the enzymes in lactose found in dairy produce from cows' milk. Personally I am intolerant to milk proteins as well as the lactose, and since I'm also intolerant to soya I have not been able to eat any yogurts at all, other than some really revolting things made from rice milk that tasted of chemicals and were as runny as water (Wot No Dairy). I decided to give these a try in the hopes that the ill effects would be reduced.
I bought a pack of four from my local Tesco for £1.25. As far as I can tell this is the only way to buy them. You get two strawberry and two raspberry flavour pots. They are separate from the rest of the yogurts and are kept together with other Lactofree products. I bought the semi-hard cheese at the same time, and as you'll see from my review of that, I was not impressed. Therefore it was with some trepidation that I opened my first pot.
First impressions were good. It looks like a thick, creamy yogurt. Almost like a Greek yogurt in consistency. The colour is almost white with just a tinge of pinkness. The flavour is fairly mild. Certainly not overpowering, but enough to tell the difference between the two flavours. Both contain real fruit and concentrated fruit juice. I liked the subtle, natural flavour and rich texture. What's more, I didn't suffer any ill effects from eating them.
At just over 31p per pot they're fairly good value for money in my opinion, and while I won't be buying them regularly I'll certainly buy them once in a while for a change.
