Mackies Vanilla Ice Cream
Advantages: simple, creamy, tastey
Disadvantages: the 1L cylindrical packet is a little awkward to fit in the freezer
Makies is my number one choice for ice cream.
Mackies is made on a farm in Aberdeenshire. The environmentally conscious company use wind turbines to power their delicious ice cream making business.
Mackies market their ice cream as a luxury product at at an affordable price. I can not argue with this claim.
The ice cream is pure white, nicely textured, simple, creamy and delicious. There's no artificial flavours or colours added. There's no confusing mish mash of flavours or any other extraneous bits and bobs. It's traditional ice cream that tastes great and that is all I ask for.
A 1litre carton normally costs £2.97 at most supermarkets although, at the moment deals abound so you can pick this ice cream up for £2.00 which is a snip compared to other luxury brands such as Haagen Daz which will set you back a hefty £4.45 for 500ml.
Mackies is rich and creamy but not too rich or heavy. This makes it a perfect for desert if you have stuffed yourself full but still crave a little sweet indulgence.
If ice cream has a tendency to mysteriously vanish in your house, as it does in mine, You can buy the larger 2litre box which will cost you £3.97. The 2L box is rectangle in shape. I find this fits in my freezer more comfortably than the cylindrical 1L carton and lasts a bit longer. However, the 1L carton does contain more than enough to feed an average family of four desert after dinner.
I think this ice cream is great value for money and delivers exactly what I want from an ice cream.
Look out for the distinctive blue and white Mackies packaging the next time you are in store and give it a try. I wouldn't buy another vanilla ice cream.
Summary: Meets the marketing claim luxurious and affordable
