“ Type: Cheesecake „
Over the last few weeks I have had several family members coming to stay for short visits. Deciding what to feed them always takes a good deal of thought. I was on the look out for something a bit different for desserts. I bought several desserts from Morrisons and the first one I am going to review is Mini Cheesecakes. These little cheesecakes are made 'New York' style and come in a purple coloured box. There is a picture of the cheesecakes on the front of the box. Each box contains twelve little cakes. When I opened the box I had to pull out the tray which contained the cheesecakes. Each one is sitting in an individual well, and there are, easy to tear, perforations round each cheesecake. The instructions said to leave the cheesecakes to defrost for five minutes, before removing from the tray. I did this and then, all I had to do, was press the bottom of the well to remove each one. The perforations mean that I can use a many as I need and then put the remainder back in the freezer until needed. I got six vanilla and six belgian chocolate cheesecakes in the box. Each one was sprinkled lightly with icing sugar. I tasted the vanilla one first. The biscuit on the bottom was soft and quite crumbly. It was a lovely golden colour and it complimented the pale vanilla topping very well. The biscuit tasted very much like a crumbled digestive. The vanilla topping had a lovely creamy taste to it and it seemed to just melt in my mouth. The belgian chocolate cheesecake had the same base as the vanilla flavour. The chocolate topping was amazing. It also melted in my mouth and it left me with a very yummy chocolate after taste in my mouth. I can honestly say that these mini cheesecakes went down a treat with my visitors. I did pour some fresh cream over the top of them, as a little extra, before serving. All the ingredients, instructions and nutritional values are written on the back of the box. The defrost time for these is 30 minutes, which is excellent. Even if I had unexpected visitors I could serve these within 30 minutes and know that they will taste great. The best before date on the box I bought was August 2009 which means I can have these in the freezer until I need them. These 12 mini cheesecakes cost me £1.49 in Morrisons, that makes them about 12p each. One thing I will mention is that, on the front of the box, the picture shows the cheesecakes sitting on top of each other. In my opinion, this would not be possible once they have been defrosted. The toppings are too soft to do this. Will I buy these again - Yes definitely.
