Muller has been producing yoghurts and dairy desserts since 1896 and was established by Ludwig Muller.

*Product*

Muller Rice was first produced in 1980. It is generally known as being a dairy rice combined with fruit sauce. This review however, will focus on the Original variety which does not contain any fruit sauce. Muller Rice Original is simply creamy dairy rice.

The rice is low fat and contains no artificial colours or preservatives.

*Packaging*

The Muller Rice desserts come in a plastic, round pot which is quite deep and adopts a blue and white colour theme. There is a foil lid on the top which has the Muller logo and product name.

Around the pot, you will find the ingredients, nutritional information, preparation guidelines and contact details for Muller.

*The Rice*

Inside the pot, you are greeted with a huge portion of an off white/creamy rice pudding. The pieces of rice are quite large and there is plenty of creamy covering.

*Preparation*

This rice can be eaten cold from the fridge or heated up for a warm dessert. To heat, simply remove the lid and heat on full power in your microwave for 70secs. Serve!

*Availability and Price*

Muller Rice Original can be bought in individual tubs for around 52p from supermarkets. You can also buy a multi pack containing 3 Original and 3 Strawberry Muller Rices for around £3 but look out for special offers.

*My Opinion*

My favourite Muller Rices are by far the Strawberry but at 52p roughly a pot, I don't get to buy them that often and often buy what is on offer. Well doing my Tesco shop last week, the 6pk of Muller Rices were on offer at £2.92 or 2 packs for £3 so I bought this pack and the Raspberry/Apple pack.

I am quite fond of rice pudding and usually buy the tinned variety from Ambrosia but hubby is not always in the mood for rice so these little pots or Original are ideal. They pots are a good size and 190g is quite filling and I would say more filling than normal yoghurt due to it being rice.

On opening the pot, there is a sweet aroma of vanilla which is very creamy. I notice that the rice pieces are quite a bit bigger than that of other Muller Rices and it looks delicious.

Dipping my spoon in for a taste, I also notice that the pudding is alot thicker and creamier that others in the range. I believe this is down to it not having the rather runny sauce.

The rice is lovely and soft but with a nice firm bite to it. It is as creamy as it looks and very much a high quality pudding. There is plenty of the creaminess and the rice is well coated but very evident.

The rice is very filling and leaves a pleasant yet sweet after taste. I chose to have mine cold though I do like normal rice pudding heated up so I am sure this would be equally as tasty.

The main reason for my purchase was due to the fact that the pack contained the strawberry flavour but I am glad I did buy these as they were very tasty and substantial and if you like normal rice pudding, you will surely like these.

I suppose if you were unsure of the rice being so plain, you could add a touch of strawberry sauce or jam or something for more flavour.

The only thing that concerns me is the sugar. More than 20g is ridiculous even if it is a low fat dessert!

Try them, you may be suprised.

Thanks for reading
