Go and treat yourself to a slice of After Eight !

After getting up this morning and noticing yet another empty After Eight Dessert box in the bin, I thought I would look to see what the great attraction is as this is the 2nd box this week!. I looked in the freezer and my son had replaced this with a new one, so now was my chance to find out ( against my good nature I decided to have some of this for my breakfast this morning!.... thank goodness I've had my fill of Special K lately anyway!) not much of an ice cream lover this would be interesting. This dessert comes in a sturdy cardboard box, looking rather like a huge box of After Eight Mints, but with a picture of some ice cream on the front. Being quite a whopper weighing in at 1000ml it is a lot bigger that a lot of the other ice cream desserts in the shops. Just for a change the large box (measuring just over 10 inches long by 4 and a half inches wide by just under 3 inches )is not misleading and the dessert fits inside the box very snuggly instead of opening a box with the tiniest dessert sitting in the middle ( I've been caught out quite a few times before when I have had guests over having to rush out and buy another one!!) so that's a good start. Now the ice cream is wrapped in a white paper sleeve sitting on a dark plastic tray, I tear the end off and pull back the paper to reveal a dessert that looks as good as it's picture on the box as well, another good thing ( the stars are starting to mount up now!). I was completely surprised on how good this looks, very impressive if serving at the table as it looks proper posh!. With the sides having chocolate ice cream swirled edges, the middle has layers of white ice cream with crispy chocolate layers inbetween, finishing of with dark chocolate zig zagged across the top with flakes of the chocolate scattered across the top yummy!. As if that isn't good enough it has the delicate taste of the After Eight Mint flavour, not so overpowering but enough to get your taste buds going. Apart from the fancy sides and top you could mistake it for a "Viennetta" to look at but by no means is it anything like it to taste, this is so much nicer!. Now I can see why these are flying out of my house at the moment as the ice cream is lovely and creamy, with a lovely chocolatey ice cream as well there is no false or artificial taste to this at all. A lovely dessert to serve to your guests after a good meal as this would look so nice sitting on a glass plate at the table ( there certainly wouldn't be any left I'm sure!). Each 100ml serving contains; ~~~Calories 139~~~ ~~~Sugars 11.5g~~~ ~~~Fat 8.7g~~~ ~~~Saturates 7.3~~~ ~~~Salt 0.1g~~~ In weightwatchers points this is 4, so as a one off not to back as it is worth the treat. Unfortunely it does say that it may contain traces of peanuts and nuts which is a shame that some people will not get the chance to taste this lovely dessert. Suitable for vegetarians. It does also say on the box that " This product may stain " I've never seen that on a dessert box before strange! At the moment Tesco are selling this on special offer for £2.00 instead of £2.99, which even at the full asking price I think is an excellant buy. You certainly get your money's worth with this beauty!. So if you are having people over for dinner this weekend then I would rush out and buy one of these, I'm going too as my son and his girlfriend are over on Sunday the only problem is were to hide it from the others otherwise that will be demolished as well!!! So a very well deserved 5 Dooyoo stars!

        Delicious!

I love Vienetta ice-cream and I love mint and I love After Eight chocolates. This After Eight desert is a combination of all three and it works perfectly. The best thing about this desert, after the taste, is the fact it is pretty big (and I am a glutton!) as it weighs in at 575 grams. Even I couldn't finish all that in one sitting! This makes it better than Viennetta in my opinion, as Vienetta tends to be quite small if you are sharing. There is enough for four but never any seconds. There are plenty of seconds in the After Eight desert. The ice cream is layered between dark chocolate. The balance of mint ice cream and chocolate ice cream works perfectly. the ice cream is smooth and creamy and of a very high quality. The mint flavour is just strong enough without being overpowering to the chocolate. I would not say that either flavour is the more dominant. Nutritional info per 100ml: 139 calories 8.7g fat 11.5g sugar At about three pound for this desert, it is not too expensive. It is absolutely delicious and a real quality desert so I do not mind paying that at all. In fact, I would pay more!

The great After Eight taste but you don't need to wait for the coffee!

One of my favourite ways of finishing up a nice meal is with a few After Eights so when I discovered Nestle After Eight Dessert I thought it was likely to be the best of everything - and it certainly was! This dessert looks quite similar to a Walls Vienetta (which I also love) but it's about twice the size so definitely goes further when there are a few of you sharing it! The box is also that very distinctive After Eight green! The entire dessert is 575 grams and comes as a long oblong that you need to slice. It has to be kept frozen until you are ready to eat it. It really is a very attractive dessert. It is a mixture of mint and chocolate ice creams with crisp chocolate flavour layers and decorated with dark chocolate pieces and it looks absolutely divine particularly as the ice cream is all beautifully swirling with all the bits of dark chocolate just peeping through! Not only does it look great but it tastes absolutely fantastic. In fact I can't think of many desserts that I like more. What you notice most is that you really do get that distinct After Eight taste. The minty taste is really cool and crisp and the chocolate makes a good contrast. I just love finding all the little bits of dark chocolate as I am eating it. Overall it is just a great taste combination and it is the sort of dessert that you really want to savour incredibly slowly. Just as I am doing now! It's so delicious! It comes wrapped and on a plastic tray. As you cut the slices yourself you can decide just how big they are but it does easily provide six generous portions if not more! Each 100ml serving contains Calories 139 7%, Sugars 11.5g 13%, Fat 8.7g 12%, Saturates 7.3g 37%, Salt 0.1g 2% of an adult's guideline daily amount. I really don't think this is too bad at all especially for such a scrummy dessert! Main ingredients include mint ice cream, chocolate ice cream and chocolate pieces and everything in it makes it suitable for vegetarians. There may, however, be traces of nuts and in particular peanuts are mentioned although it's impossible to detect any of these. One of these desserts will set you back £2.99 at Sainsburys which is not cheap but not too unreasonable either. And for something so delicious it's worth every penny! Overall this is a fantastic dessert especially when you want to spoil yourself. The only problem is - just like After Eights - you'll just keep wanting a little more!
