Advantages: delicious

Disadvantages: none!

One of my favourite ways of finishing up a nice meal is with a few After Eights so when I discovered Nestle After Eight Dessert I thought it was likely to be the best of everything - and it certainly was!

This dessert looks quite similar to a Walls Vienetta (which I also love) but it's about twice the size so definitely goes further when there are a few of you sharing it! The box is also that very distinctive After Eight green! The entire dessert is 575 grams and comes as a long oblong that you need to slice. It has to be kept frozen until you are ready to eat it.

It really is a very attractive dessert. It is a mixture of mint and chocolate ice creams with crisp chocolate flavour layers and decorated with dark chocolate pieces and it looks absolutely divine particularly as the ice cream is all beautifully swirling with all the bits of dark chocolate just peeping through!

Not only does it look great but it tastes absolutely fantastic. In fact I can't think of many desserts that I like more. What you notice most is that you really do get that distinct After Eight taste. The minty taste is really cool and crisp and the chocolate makes a good contrast. I just love finding all the little bits of dark chocolate as I am eating it. Overall it is just a great taste combination and it is the sort of dessert that you really want to savour incredibly slowly. Just as I am doing now! It's so delicious!

It comes wrapped and on a plastic tray. As you cut the slices yourself you can decide just how big they are but it does easily provide six generous portions if not more! Each 100ml serving contains Calories 139 7%, Sugars 11.5g 13%, Fat 8.7g 12%, Saturates 7.3g 37%, Salt 0.1g 2% of an adult's guideline daily amount. I really don't think this is too bad at all especially for such a scrummy dessert!

Main ingredients include mint ice cream, chocolate ice cream and chocolate pieces and everything in it makes it suitable for vegetarians. There may, however, be traces of nuts and in particular peanuts are mentioned although it's impossible to detect any of these.

One of these desserts will set you back £2.99 at Sainsburys which is not cheap but not too unreasonable either. And for something so delicious it's worth every penny!

Overall this is a fantastic dessert especially when you want to spoil yourself. The only problem is - just like After Eights - you'll just keep wanting a little more!

Summary: The great After Eight taste but you don't need to wait for the coffee!
