“ Brand: Nestle / Type: Ice Cream „
I'm not a mega sweet tooth but i do enjoy the occasional sweet treat sometimes! Upon browsing the frozen section in Tesco i came across these caramac ice-cream bars. I really like the original caramac bars that you can buy in shops and they were on offer for £1.00 for a box of four, so i thought i might get some to try and it wouldn't be a major loss if they wern't that brilliant.
The way to describe these ice-creams is that they are like choc ices and you eat them from the wrapper. The wrapper has the same red and yellow old fashioned style design. Each bar is quite light and they seem like the perfect size. Upon opening it you can smell the sweet caramel tones coming from the outside caramel layer. When you bite into it you find out that the caramac layer is fairly thin but i think it's the perfect amount for the ratio with the ice cream. The ice-cream is a slightly caramel flavoured vanilla ice cream but it isn't too sweet that it over powers the caramac. A lot of people say they don't like caramac because it's too sweet but i think in this ice-cream bar the calmness of the ice-cream makes it less sickly and maybe more enjoyable for those people. When i got to the end of the bar i immediatley wanted another one! These are just so tasty!
Each bar contains 140 calories. I think this is fairly good considering it's a fair amount less than your average chocolate bar. It's also less than the original caramac bars which are 175 calories. I honestly think these would be a good sweet fix for anyone who is on a diet and wants a treat. Considering special K bars can be around 100 calories, i think it's worth having one of these instead and having the extra 40 calories because you will definitely be satisfied. They are also good for dieters who love their ice cream, as these are portioned out instead of having a tub of ice-cream where you can eat as much as you want!
I suppose it is a strange time of year to be buying, eating and then discussing ice creams especially considering how cold it has been where I live today. A few nights ago though I went to a Tesco supermarket and browsing the refrigerators I noticed a box of Nestle Caramac ice Cream Bars. I know that all sorts of regular chocolate bars have been turned in to ice creams such as a Mars or a Cadbury's Crunchie but I had never seen this variety before and as I think the standard Caramac bar is so unique and tasty I really wanted to sample them. The price was also very competitive with a box of four only costing a pound on this occasion.
The packaging is yellow and red and each bar is covered individually in a plastic wrapper. These can be described as choc ices really with the bar being made up of ice cream with a chocolate coating obviously the same chocolate which is used to create the classic traditional Caramac bar. These taste extremely pleasant and the contrast between the ice cream and the coating that cracks when you bite in to it is splendid. Information on the box describes the ice cream as caramel flavoured although to be honest until I read this I thought it was just plain vanilla, so the taste of caramel is not strong in my opinion however what really makes these fantastic is that the coating of chocolate really reflects what you would expect from a bar of Caramac.
I don't know how much these are priced at normally but for a pound they were a genuine bargain and I enjoyed all four of them and would buy them again if found for the same price or at another reasonable one. Each bar contains 140 calories and 8.3g of fat so they are no worse as to what they contain when compared to other chocolate snacks or sweets although I imagine they would taste even better on a hot day in summer as opposed to eating one at the end of November.
