Advantages: Actually tastes of vanilla

Disadvantages: Probably not that healthy, despite its claims. Also quite expensive

With its autographed stencilled pot to give it the 'personal touch' (as if you can be on first name terms with yoghurt anyway), Rachel's Organic Low Fat range is one of those products that quite smugly markets itself in the 'reassuringly expensive' bracket, normally retailing near the £2 mark and crammed at eye-level above all the safe, boring unflavoured yoghurt further down that is almost certainly much better for you.

I can't believe that marketing types are still trying to pull this 'low fat' trick. Anyone with any sense knows that if you see the phrase 'low fat' it can nearly always be substituted for 'packed with sugar!' Rachel's Vanilla Yoghurt is no exception. A cursory glance at the nutritional table reveals that it is made up of a not-very-healthy 13% sugar. Just because something's calls itself low fat doesn't mean that it's healthy at all.

Anyway, holier-than-thou sarcastic ranting aside it does taste quite nice, despite being a bit too sweet for me. For once something labelled vanilla does actually taste of vanilla pods, rather than being a byword for flavourless beige nothingness. It's thick and full of flavour, witha nice creamy texture and is quite moreish. I try to make sure there is always yoghurt in the fridge, but I only ever get this if it's on offer, or very rarely as a treat. It's quite good with chopped fruit of pretty much any variety (bananas and figs are my favourite), or poured on cereal for breakfast, but I wouldn't choose it as a staple over plain Greek yoghurt.

Good for a treat every now and then

Summary: A nice luxury yoghurt
