Ribena Ice Lollies
Advantages: fruity, refreshing, great value, low in claories
I love ice cream in the summer but it is high in fat and calories so I often purchase ice lollies instead. My last purchase of ice lollies was a box of Ribena lollies from Iceland where they were on special offer. Both my husband I love Ribena so I was not in any doubt that we would not like these lollies either.
I paid just £1.00 for a box containing 6 of the Ribena Blackcurrant fruit juice lollies. I thought that this was excellent value as they work out at under 20 pence per lolly.
The Ribena ice lollies come packaged in a rectangular cardboard box which contains all of the necessary information that you need to know about the lollies on. This includes ingredients listings, nutritional information and that the lollies contain no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners and does contain real fruit juice. Inside the box you will find the six lollies all individually packed in thick plastic wrappers that have the Ribena logo on and pictures of a blackcurrant bush. The individual wrapper is easy to open by tearing the jaggered end to reveal the purple cylinder shaped ice lolly on its wooden stick.
I did at first think that the lollies were a little on the small side. But when I was eating the lolly and realised that they are quite strongly flavoured I think they would become a little sickly to eat if they were any bigger especially for children.
The lolly is easy to hold with the flat wooden stick which protrudes far enough for you to be able to grip it without the ice lolly touching your hand making it sticky. The lolly also holds firmly onto the stick when eating and did not fall off which I find happens with a lot of ice lollies like this.
Each 35ml ice lolly contains just 25 calories, I was really surprised how low this was and immediately thought that these make a great treat for anyone on a diet. The lollies also contain Vitamin C from the blackcurrant juice contained in them.
Overall I really enjoyed these Ribena ice lollies they were extremely fruity and tasty with a strong blackcurrant flavour. The flavour was also not too sweet with them having quite a tang to them which I found to be refreshing and thirst quenching. I will certainly be purchasing these ice lollies again especially if we actually have some more warm weather as they are a cool, refreshing, guilt free treat.
