“ Brand: Sainsbury's / Type: Puddings „
I bought my little grandson a sponge pudding from the Sainsbury's Basics range some time go and he loved it so much I decided to try this chocolate one from the same range to see if he liked it just as much as he enjoyed the syrup flavoured pudding and for the price if he did not like it then it is not a lot of money to be wasted in my opinion.
This pudding comes in a round tin, it is very basic looking and is has a paper wrapper in the orange and white colours of the Basics range with the name on the front of the can. The can does not have a ring pull and so needs to be opened using a can opener.
Inside the can is a dark brown coloured pudding, it has a dark brown sauce over the top of the pudding and looks really appetising. It is easy to cook and all that is needed is to either take the sponge pudding from the can and place on a microwaveable plate and heat up for around 2 minutes or so and it is ready to eat. It can also be placed in a saucepan of boiling water and boiled inside the unopened can for around 40 minutes. I prefer to just microwave it because I find it much easier to cook it that way and it takes so much more less time to cook and more convenient too. It is cooked in no time at all.
Once cooked the sauce on top of the pudding is nice and soft and kind of drips down the pudding. The pudding is a lovely soft textured sponge. It is easy to chew and swallow and it tastes delicious. It is has a nice taste of chocolate and it is not a sickly taste at all. It is not at all bland or unpleasant to eat. It is a really nice tasty pudding and is nice, light and very spongy. The combination of the sponge and chocolate sauce work well together with this pudding and it is big enough to serve at least 4 people. It is around 6 inches in diameter and around 4 inches in depth and so quite a good sized pudding.
It tastes really nice served with custard over the top. My hubby ate it with ice cream over the top and he found it very enjoyable. My grandson and myself ate it with custard and we both loved it. My grandson absolutely loved this one as much as the other flavour we tried recently. He could easily chew and swallow it with no problems at all.
For the price of just 54p for 300g, this is an amazingly good quality pudding and excellent value for the price. It is so affordable for a pudding for all the family and if you are on a low budget it is one that is an enjoyable one for all the family.
For a third of the pudding it contains 246 calories, 8.9g of fat, 4.1g saturates and total sugars 25.7g.
It tells me on the can it is suitable for vegetarians and that it contains wheat, gluten and soya and that it would not be suitable for nut or sesame allergy sufferers so this is worth bearing in mind when thinking of buying this pudding if you suffer from these allergies.
It is easy to cut into the pudding to divide it into equal shares, well I think my little grandson got more than his fair share of this one lol. It is just the right amount of sweetness for a pudding and the sauce is not too sweet, the sauce is a good food addition for this pudding with a nice rich texture that goes well with the sponge.
The tin can be easily recycled and placed in the recycle bin. It is easy to take out of the can using a knife too with very little effort needed and one that does not stick to the sides of the can and it does not break up into little pieces while taking it from the can.
It is one I highly do recommend for anyone who is looking for a cheap, affordable pudding as I think it is a super one and one that I certainly will be buying again in the future as it gives me all that I expect from a sponge pudding and it is a delicious tasting one that suits my family very well.
I give it 5 stars.
