Advantages: So cheap it would be rude not to buy them

Disadvantages: They are incapable of intelligent conversation so can't help you with the Times crossword

I've mentioned before in other Dooyoo reviews that I like the Sainsbury's Basics range; in my opinion they offer a good price without the quality of the food or taste suffering. I've nearly always got a pack of Sainsbury's Creme Caramels in my fridge, so here's my opinions on them.

The Product

A four pack of Creme Caramels costs 45p, so at 11 and a bit pence per pot there isn't much to lose if you don't like them. The majority of the dessert is made up of a custard yellow coloured milk pudding thickened up with a gelling agent and on top of this sits just under a centimetre's worth of a runny caramel sauce topping.

The milk pudding tastes sweet and rich (maybe a little like cold eggy custard?) and the caramel sauce is also sweet, but not tooth suckingly so. Each pot contains 100g of dessert, and for those who don't consider life too short to count these things, they contain 103 kcals and 0.6g of staurated fat. If you're posh and don't want to eat it from the container, there is a small metal tab which, when pulled, will release the upturned pot's contents onto a plate - oh so very Nigella.

Opinion

They are like a less thick creme brulee without the hard crust and instead you get a very tasty runny caramel sauce. Personally, I don't like the hard burnt crust of a creme brulee and see them as a waste of a perfectly good blowtorch, so I much prefer these Creme Caramels. I also love the price, which when compared to the 75p for four price of the Sainsbury's ordinary range Creme Caramels makes them seem even better value for money.

They satisfy perfectly that pang for sweetness that comes after a hearty main course and have around a month's shelf life when kept in the fridge unopened. Taking into account taste versus cost, I think that they are very worthy of being awarded the full five stars. Thanks for reading.

Summary: Very tasty very cheap caramel puddings in the Sainsbury's Basics range
