      Great product

We had this custard the other day when my partner decided he wanted apple pie with custard after tea! So we had a look in our local Sainsburys and there were a few offerings, including Ambrosia tinned custard and this. As this was only 55p I thought we would go for this as we were trying to save some pennies and in my experience, custard usually tastes the same no matter what it is, especially if it is poured over something. So as I said we paid 55p for a small carton of this. The carton weighed 500g but it is worth noting that on the Sainsburys website it costs only 47p so I would imagine the price was hiked up a bit as we were in a Sainsburys local! So the carton of custard is predominantly a deep green in colour with a good picture of the product on it. There is also a traffic light in the corner showing the nutritional values, most of these are orange so not too bad. Pouring out the custard I was pleased to see how thick it was, it looked creamy and had a slight aroma of vanilla. You can enjoy this hot or cold but we chose to have ours hot. We heated ours in the microwave as this was what the carton suggested but I imagine it could be heated on the hob too. We cooked ours for 2 minutes, stirring it half way through. This ensured it was piping hot and looked and smelt delicious! Tucking into the custard I was really happy with the taste. It tasted like it could easily be from the leading brand as it was thick and creamy and had a nice vanilla flavour to it which was not overpowering. It also had a nice colour to it, it was not too yellow and instead more cream in colour so therefore does not look artificial. The taste was really nice and both me and my partner enjoyed it. The carton does not state how many servings are in it but I would say it serves 2 or 3 comfortably. The carton says each serving (which I would guess is a third of the carton) provides: 150 calories, 3.8g fat (1.9g saturates), 16.5g sugars and 0.16g salt. So the only concern here is the sugar content but that is the same with all sweet treats. I really enjoyed this custard and will definitely be buying it again as it was as good as the leading brand.
