“ Type: Ice Cream „
Well, it's that time of year with the sun shining outside, that I come to fill up my freezer with my favourite ice creams and choc ices! A recent addition and one that I have only just discovered is Sainsbury's Taste the Difference dark choc ices. So, for the sake of this review, I am sitting here typing this one handed with one of the said choc ices in the other, checking out that it tastes just as good as the last time I ate one!
I am a big fan of the 'Taste the Difference' range and do believe that most of the products are worth paying that little bit extra for! These choc ices are no exception. So I shall now endeavour to describe the total experience of eating one of these delicious choc ices!
Firstly there is the box which houses six individually wrapped choc ices. As with all the 'taste the Difference' range the packaging is predominantly a rich burgandy colour which already makes you think 'luxury' before you even open the box. There is a rather tempting photograph of one of these choc ices on the front and it does look very nice. On the front of the box as well it reads 'a thick coat of Belgian chocolate around smooth tempting ice cream'. Well, being a big fan of Belgian chocolate as well as ice cream, I knew I just had to try one!
Inside the box, there are six choc ices all individually wrapped. I have to say that at this point the wrapping is a little bit disappointing - plain purple instead of that rich inviting burgandy! And you might have thought they could have put a picture or logo on it! Anyway, that is just a small point because it's what's inside that really matters!
The choc ice itself is about standard size for a choc ice, and it is just as described on the box. The belgian chocolate covering is nice and generous and tastes out of this world. It's also very smooth! I have to admit that it is very tempting just to break of the bits of chocolate and each all of those separately - but that would be far too messy and not a good example for my daughters! Because the thickness of the chocolate is quite generous, it does actually mean that it does not break up as readily as some other choc ices so it is definitely not too messy!
The ice cream inside is creamy vanilla - very smooth and delicious. It really does melt in the mouth and go down a treat! Where it is really successful though is with that gorgeous blend of Belgian dark chocolate - the combination of the two is just right! it is definitely, in my opinion, a choc ice to savour! There would be no point wolfing it down in three or four mouthfuls! Oh no! You need to take small slow bites so you can make this wonderful choc ice experience last as long as possible! (And then, of course, as there are six in the packet, you can always go back for another one!)
So if I have managed to get you drooling over these very yummy choc ices, you'll want to know that they can be bought from Sainsburys at £1.89 for a pack of six. However, if you hurry, at the moment they are selling two packs for £2! I think that's really good value and much better than all of the branded choc ices you can buy.
Just before you get too carried away though, as with all good products, we are told the nutritional values. the one I always look at first is calories, and this wonderful choc ice comes in at 168 per bar! (Well, i guess it could be worse!) Fat is also quite high at 10.7g of which saturated fat is 6.7g. Well, I guess I'd better not eat the whole lot in one go then!
Seriously though, for a summer treat, you really can't go wrong with these lovely choc ices, and as it says on the packet, you really can 'taste the difference'!
