Advantages: Sweet, sugary and very moreish
Disadvantages: Fattening, do not eat as part of a calory controlled diet
Having a sweet tooth and being quite fussy when it comes to doughnuts (I don't like Jam, or many filled doughnuts), I often have a browse through the cake section at my local Sainsburys to find a nice pastry treat. It was on one of my weekly browses, that I came across these little beauties, 4 Yum Yums for a decent price.
== What is a Yum Yum? ==
Yum Yums are a twisted rope shaped doughnut, glazed with sugar as opposed to ring doughnuts or filled doughnuts. I have also seen toffee flavoured ones, but have yet to try them.
== The Product ==
As previously stated, Sainsburys Yum Yums come in packs of 4, they have a shelf life of about 1-2 days, but you can extend this for an extra day by keeping them in the fridge (as if they are going to last that long in this house). It states on the packaging "This product has been previously frozen, do not freeze", but I don't understand why anyone would purchase these and not want to eat them straight away.
20% of the Yum Yum is made up of sugar glaze; a mixture of sugar. water, glucose and many other things that are seriously bad for you, whilst sugar is the 4th main ingredient in the Yum Yum it's self, so I wouldn't recommend eating these unless you don't care about your weight, as they are quite fattening.
== Price ==
You can purchase these from your local Sainsburys store, I only have a Sainsburys express close to me and they sell them in there. They are only £1.09 for a packet of 4, which equates to just over 27 pence each. I think overall the price is good, but they are addictive and far too easy to eat that 27 pence goes down my throat in no time at all.
== Verdict ==
Extremely addictive and such a fantastic sugary pastry treat, I usually buy a pack of 4 with the good intentions of sharing them with my daughter throughout the week, but I find myself protecting her from the evils of tooth decay by giving her one, and eating the other three to myself, what a good daddy I am. The pastry feels quite light when going down and usually it only takes about three bites for it to disappear, leaving you a little unsure whether you've just eaten one or not...until you look at the packet to grab one and you wonder where the hell three Yum Yums have gone. I love the crunchy sugary crust and they seem to taste a lot better when kept in the fridge as the sugar goes even more crispy, I'm salivating just thinking about them. Make sure you have a cloth handy, because they are very sticky!
