** Screwballs Ice Creams **
My girlfriend is nuts about icecream and Screwballs have a special place in her heart. Being the good boyfriend that I am and also as an excuse to eat like a greedy child again I bought us a box of screwballs to keep in the freezer over Christmas.
** What a screwball ice-cream is **
A screwball is a cone shaped transparent plastic tub full of rasberry ripple ice cream with a circular bubblegum at the very bottom wedged into the smallest part of the cone.
I used to buy them from the ice cream man as a child and so did my GF. Now the cheap option is buy a frozen box of Screwballs from the supermarket. I bought our box of 6 from Iceland in West Bromwich for under £2.00
** Eating a screwball **
Eating a screwball is a two part exerience. First the rasperry ripple ice cream has to be eaten. Somehow the bubblegum at the bottom flavours the ice-cream slightly. I don't know if it is really better or worse than normal rasperry ripple but to my mind it is slghtly different. The ice-cream is very pleasent to eat though.
When all the ice-cream has been eaten you are left with the bubble gum which resembles a frozen marble stuck to the bottom of the plastic cone.
You have to let the bubblegum warm up in your mouth before you can chew it or you will hurt your teeth. I don't buy bubble gum and haven't since my school days so I can't compair the quality of it with any other BG.
But it tastes nice as long as you don't chew for two long and it does make a half decent bubble with a bit of practice.
My GF and I had a good laugh blowing bubbles but I don't think Screwballs would be the ideal after dinner treat for when you have serious company round to visit.
* Conclusion *
If you want a silly childish treat then a box of screwballs is perfect. I wouldn't give them to small children though in case they choked on the gum.
Summary: Fun and quite cheap
