“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Tarts „
I'm not normally a big fan of deserts & only have them as an occasional treat. Bakewell tart however has to be one of my favourites so when I saw this item in my local Tesco's, temptation got the better of me. Available for under £1.00 it was great value so I didn't have much to loose.
We only now bakewell tart isn't going to be the healthiest thing available in the world. But I did like the fact that the box displayed how many calories, fat etc. the product contained as it lets you know exactly what's contained within the product.
As far as the taste is concerned, I've got to say it is pretty pleasent. It's made up of an almond flavoured sponge with a layer of raspberry jam, all topped with a thin layer of icing. Sometimes I find that the icing can be abit overpowering, but in this case the amount was just right. It goes perfect with some ice cream but will also take equally as good warmed slightly and served with some custard.
I really did enjoy this product and although it's not something I would purchase regularly, I definetly would buy it again.
I absolutely love bakewell tart and when I saw this costing a mere 98p in my local Tesco store I simply had to try it out it simply called me lol. I recently had tried another one and was left a little disappointed by it so was desperate for the mighty bakewell to redeem itself to me and be as good as I think I should be!
Dark red box and on the front of it there is a photograph of the bakewell tart. I'm told in white, burgundy and black writing that it is Tesco Bakewell Tart 'A rich pastry with a raspberry jam filling, almond flavoured sponge and topped with fondant icing' and that it contains no artificial flavours or colours and is suitable for Vegetarians, serves 6 people and there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there. On the back of the box other information includes ingredients and allergy advice being given (Contains: Almonds and may contain other nuts), I'm given storage advice, a full nutritional rundown is given and contact details for Tesco are listed. It's a nice enough box and tells you everything you need to know apart from the weight if your interested in that lol.
The Bakewell Tart Itself:
Well what you get is a round bakewell tart and to serve 6 people with it they wouldn't be getting large portions I can tell you that much. I found this to comfortably give 4 nice, largish portions to me and my family though.
Appearance wise well the base and sides are pastry and the sides are really thin. Then you have a thin layer of white icing and under that a sponge with a layer of jam in it and of course it's all held together in the pastry case!
Cutting it is simple and it's not too flaky or hard to manage at all. The icing doesn't crack off and instead of being pure white icing it is patterned with a brown colour in like squiggles so it does look nice when served on a plate.
Taste wise I rather liked this actually! The pastry did taste rather buttery, the sponge was a little soggy but did have a slight almond flavour to it and the raspberry jam is actually a raspberry and plum jam and that is smooth (no seeds) however I would have liked just a bit more of that against the stodgy sponge and it did taste fruity and sweet. The icing was very sweet but as it wasn't a thick layer it did melt in the mouth well and along with the other flavours involved in this tart went extremely well with it all.
I like this alot and will eat it time and time again though if your not into overly sweet things this will not be for you...I know that much lol.
