Advantages: Sponge is moist without being overly soggy, sponge and sauce are both rich and chocolatey
Disadvantages: May be too sickly for some people
I like eating chocolate puddings but I often find that they are not to my liking. Most of the ones that I've tried have been too dry once they've been microwaved or there is not enough sauce to offer a positive taste experience. Fortunately, this wasn't the case with these puddings and I was pleasantly surprised by them.
It's easiest to microwave them and this is usually the option that I take. Most of the time, the times stated on the packaging (around 2.5 minutes on mine) is enough for them to be heated through properly even from frozen but I sometimes find that they need a few seconds longer.
The pudding that I'm reviewing here is the belgian chocolate sponge pudding, so it is ever so slightly different to the product image above. The sponge itself is a rich chocolate flavour and this is intensified by the sauce on top, which tastes very strongly of Belgian chocolate. The overall result may be a bit sickly for some people but it's perfect for satisfying my desire for something hot and chocolatey! The sponge is quite moist even without the sauce so it doesn't taste too dry or hard.
There is quite a lot of sugar in each of these puddings - 32.9g per serving, which is apparently 37% of your recommended daily allowance. There is also 27.7g of fat (11.6g of which is saturated) and this is 40% of your recommended daily allowance. However, there is also 6g of fibre so it's not all bad/. For allergy sufferers, these contain milk, wheat, gluten, egg and soya (and potentially nuts too, although they aren't a specific ingredient) so they're best avoided if you have allergies to any of these.
Summary: Ticks all the boxes!
