A Yummy Change From Normal Chocolate And Cream Eclairs

My mum treated us to these after we did the shopping yesterday, we raced home so we'd have time to scoff them before my sister and dad got in from school and work because they would have wanted to share! lol These eclairs cost £1.79 for 2 but they're big and taste soooooooo delish that I reckon that's a good price for them. These cakes are based on chocolate eclairs but Tesco have changed them a bit and added caramel to make them a bit more special. They come chilled and are kept with the rest of the fresh cream cakes in the fridges near the bread, I've told you that because my mum has been searching in the wrong place for these for a few weeks now and only found them by accident yesterday when she was looking for something else. The eclairs are made of choux pastry and the pastry is delish, it's lovely and soft with a bit of a greasy texture but in a nice way and doesn't turn it into a fatty tasting cake! The pastry is quite heavy and flakes lovely as you're eating it, I love the pastry ANY eclairs are made out of and this one is one of the best I've tasted. Inside the pastry there is a lot of whipped cream which tastes very fresh and has got a lovely light texture. One of the things that makes these eclairs different though is that there is a layer of caramel sauce in with the cream, this on it's own makes the cake even more delish than usual but they've put a proper nice chocolate topping on as well so the rich caramel works brill with the posher than usual chocolate. I LOVE the chocolate on the top of these eclairs. It's a Belgian chocolate fondant and is soft and yummy, you can't peel it off as easy as you can off an eclair from Greggs and places like that but I reckon that's better because the chocolate has sort of been attached to the pastry. The chocolate is mega rich and so is the caramel so these eclairs get a bit sickly and no way would I be able to eat more than 1 at a time, they're majorly moorish though so I bet a fair few people have tried eating the twin pack themselves..... and then got sick over it! lol The whole eclair is mega sweet, and that's everything so the cake just gets sweeter and sweeter the more you eat of it. It doesn't taste madly sugary or anything like that it's just that all the different parts of the eclair go together and because each one of them is so sweet it obviously gives you a majorly sweet cake. Recommended..... pricey but well worth it!!!

        yummy treat for me!

Tesco Finest Belgian chocolate and caramel éclairs are one of my favourite desserts from the finest range. They come in packs of 2, which is good because if I ate more then that I would be a - sick, b - the size of a whale and c - always at the dentist as all my teeth would fall out! They come in a clear plastic container with a thin cardboard band around them. The band has a picture of chunks of chocolate and caramel on the top. The Tesco finest logo is in small writing on the side just about the product name. Now to the important bits! The éclairs are sliced in half (long ways) with a layer of caramel sauce down the middle. Then there is a thick layer of fresh whipped cream. On top of the éclair is a Belgian chocolate fondant with a pattern of diagonal lines of caramel and chocolate. The amount of caramel in the éclairs is perfect, just enough so you can taste it but not so much that it is overpowering. The chocolate fondant on the top is a little bit too sweet and sometimes gives me tooth ache as I have quite sensitive teeth (not surprising as I keep eating things like these really!). The choux pastry is lovely and soft and each layer compliments the others perfectly. Each éclair contains 375 calories, 23.3g of sugar, 25.9g of fat 15.3g saturates and 0.2g of salt. These are clearly displayed on the side of the pack, not that you would expect them to be healthy! They contain milk, wheat, gluten, egg and soya. The ingredients say that these do not contain nuts but that they cannot guarantee that they are nut free. They are also suitable for vegetarians. These éclairs are gorgeous and a nice twist on the traditional ones. They look good too as you can see the cream in the middle making them very hard to resist! They are quite a bit sweeter than normal éclairs though, I know my flatmate finds them a bit too sickly for her but I don't mind because that's more for me! I have a feeling my next review will be on Slimfast :-D
