      Disadvantages

      A naughty but nice treat.

My husband and I often purchase the £10 meal deal from Tesco (mainly for the wine which often works out as coming free) and this was the pudding he choose as he has given up chocolate for lent and the other dessert on offer was of course chocolate!

These puddings are from the Tesco Finest range and usually retails at £3.00 for two puddings but as mentioned we got these as part of the meal deal. These sponges are of a decent size and the all butter sponge enriched with clotted cream is both rich and moist and utterly delicious. The toffee sauce that tops the sponges is glossy, smooth and sweet so you do need a sweet tooth and like the taste of toffee to really enjoy this product. We had these with vanilla ice-cream that set them off perfectly and it really was a real treat to have after our meal.

Of course to enjoy something this much there is always a downside and this is it: each pudding contains 445cals; 43.6g of the 55.8g of carboydrate is sugar; and there is 22.3g of fat of which 13.1 is saturated fat. Yes, I agree these sound like a heart attack waiting to happen but if your diet is usually fairly healthy I would say these are a special treat to have once in a while.

These can heated either in the microwave from chilled (the longest time required is 2 mins, the shortest time 1 min 50 secs (from chilled) or 2 mins 15 secs, the shortest time 2 mins 10 secs (from frozen) depending on your microwave wattage) or steamed which takes around 20 mins (from chilled) or 30 mins (from frozen).

We do ours in the microwave and they come out perfectly - just be careful as they are extremely hot when they first come out but we use the ice-cream to combat this as we can't wait long enough for them to cool down before consuming.

This product is suitable for vegetarians. Allergy advice: contains milk, wheat, gluten and eggs although it is a recipe that does not use nuts but they cannot guarantee that the product is nut free because of where the product is made, i.e. in a factory where the equipment is previously used to make products containing nuts.

This product is free from artificial preservatives, flavours and colours and should be kept refrigerated and consumed before it's use by date which is about a week or so.

Despite the rather alarming nutritional contents and calories I can nevertheless highly recommend this pudding as each mouthful is a sweet delight!

      Thanks for reading. x
