This Yogurt Could Have Been Loads Better

I love lemon flavoured things and on the day I brought this Lemon Curd yogurt from Tesco Finest I opened it as soon as I got home because I've been wanting to try it for ages but never got round to buying it.

It looks and smells delish when you open the pot and is smooth and looks proper thick even before I dug my spoon in. I don't know why but I was expecting bits of lemon peel in it but the yogurt is perfectly smooth and creamy, there's 14% whipping cream in it and that makes it a very thick dessert style yogurt. It's not the sort of yogurt that you'd eat for breakfast because it's too sweet and fake tasting.

I don't think it's as tasty as it smells though. From the smell of it I was expecting the yogurt to be more tangy than sweet because it's got a nice natural bitter smell like a fresh lemon.

The taste is disappointing though because it's very bitter to start with and tastes more like lemons than lemon curd but then it does start tasting a bit like lemon curd after the 2nd mouth full. The trouble is that even though it's got the bitter taste it is too sweet and I thought the sugary flavour spoilt the lemon because it covered the tang up too much and by the time I got to the end of the pot I could hardly taste the lemon at all because of all the sugar dumped on my tastebuds!

I liked the thick and creamy consistency of the yogurt and I thought it was much nicer than the texture of real lemon curd! I wish this yogurt tasted nicer because I thought it was going to be a nice treat as for someone who likes lemon curd but it was disappointing and not as special as the rest of the Finest yogurts I've tried. There's 15.5g fat in the pot as well and that's mad for a fruity yogurt and I reckon I'd have been better off having a piece of toast with butter and real lemon curd for much less fat than that.

The yogurt isn't refreshing either like I thought it was going to be because lemon desserts usually cool and freshen your mouth but this one doesn't and I reckon that's because it's so thick and sugary. I think Tesco have just mucked around too much with a good idea. If they'd concentrated on making a lemon curd flavoured yogurt then I think they would have been better off than this lemon curd and bitter lemon hybrid that doesn't live up to the Finest label.
