Advantages: Cream is nice.

Disadvantages: Too much icing.

God I love cream pastry, flakey crust with rich cream slathered inside topped off with icing is my secret pleasure.
I used to love the type they sold in my corner store in Norway, they called it "napoleons kake", and it was absolutely divine! Unfortunately since I moved I have never been able to find anything half as good, but I am always willing to test something new and see if it will bring back memories of years gone by.

I noticed these cream slices a few months ago while guiltily scanning the desert section while I was supposed to be cutting sugary foods out of my diet.
I didn't get them at the time, but as a treat a few weeks ago I decided that I deserved something special and cream slices it would be!

About:

These cream slices cost 1.89 euros in the ROI, and come in a cardboard packaging with a clear plastic window on top so we can see how utterly gorgeous they look. When you open the box out slips a plastic tray which is designed so that you can bend the packaging down in the middle so that you can gain easy access to the cream slice.

The cream slice itself is made up of a bottom layer of pastry, whipped cream, a layer of strawberry jam, more pastry and finally topped with a sugar icing and design in chocolate glaze.

Taste:

At first I tried to put my cream slice on a plate and use a spoon to eat it, I soon found out though that I would need a knife, as the pastry was very tough and would not be separated without some force. In the end I opted on picking the whole thing up and biting off pieces.
The pastry was rather too hard for my liking and didn't have the delicate flakey texture puff pastry is known for. And while the cream was fabulous, I wasn't too keen on the icing as I felt it was too thick and almost sickeningly sweet. In the end I just scraped it off my second slice as It felt like eating a spoonful of sugar.
The jam while a nice touch didn't impress me much and I could have easily done without it.

Conclusion:

I think that the tough pastry and thick sugar icing kind of turned me off, and the cream just wasn't able to substitute for those faults, so at almost 1 euro a piece I think I will pass next time.
