Advantages: Not too bad for you, very sweet, don't lose the icing on the packaging

Disadvantages: Hard not to eat more than one or two

Even if you are on a diet or just trying to eat more healthfully the occasional treat is probably alright especially of course in moderation, even better if you can treat yourself with something that is described as a light choice or option like these Carrot & Orange slices. You get six packaged in a plastic tray kept air tight by a plastic bag all in a cardboard box.

The slices themselves are just over half the size of a Mr Kipling slice which I suppose is great as it will further make you feel like you not eating too much of something which is not as good for you as a piece of fruit for example. The slices are very similar to any other carrot cake you may have eaten in the way they are constructed with the cake on the bottom and then a thin layer of icing on the top. The cake part is fantastic, very moist and the carrot and orange combination is lovely. The yoghurt icing on the top is very sweet but not overbearing and all in all these have to be some of the best shop bought cakes I have ever tasted especially as they are a healthier option.

Something that always annoys me about carrot cake is that the way it is packaged. Many times in the past I have purchased it and the top layer of icing has stuck to the plastic packaging or cellophane completely stripping the cake of nearly any at all, I am left having to try and spread the icing back on or resorting to licking it from the plastic packaging. With these Tesco cakes though that has never been a problem and they are intact when I take them out of the plastic tray as intended.

Each slice is 95 calories with 0.3g of fat but with 14.5g of sugar. I think the sugar content is sometimes higher in low fat products. These cakes must be stored in an air tight container to prevent them from drying out but I normally finish the box quite quickly so I don't really give them a chance to do so.

These are 98 pence on the Tesco website but I'm sure I paid just over a pound for mine. If you are looking for something to treat yourself with and have enough self control to only eat one or two then these could be ideal for you.

Summary: Great treat if you are trying to be generally more healthy
