“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Ice Cream „
Out of nowhere, my Tesco delivery van swarmed up the road and armed me with a packet of these bad boys, and I am ever so glad that he did!!!
I started buying these because I figured that the portion size was just enough, rather than buying huge fat tubs of ice cream all the time and devouring well over the 120ml that each of these lollies provides, I could easily have ate 2 or 3 times that much in one sitting unfortunately so nowadays I tend to go for these rich ice creams as one is always enough and I think I would be sickly if I had more than one of these!!!
They are indeed from Tesco and the flavours that I am aware of are milk chocolate and mint, white belgian chocolate and of course the very same product that I am reviewing.
Each box is just over £1.20 in price but Tesco always seems to have a 2 for £2 offer on them, enabling you to also mix the flavours, and making the second pack coming in at under 80p which in this day and age is a pretty reasonable price to pay for ice creams.
Each 120ml ice cream is individually wrapped in plastic and easily opened. They are on short fat wooden sticks which have never let me down and always allowed me to finish the last bit of of without it falling into my lap or on the floor which is of course a bonus.
The thick belgian milk chocolate cracks upon the first bite and is extremely smooth, and just the right amount of creaminess to the chocolate. Also the thickness is just right, they have not been stingy with it but not overloaded it.
The ice cream is also exceptionally creamy and is of a very high standard, so really tasty and smooth, more so than I was expecting, not the bog standard vanilla it is far more creamier than that.
All in all I recommend making use of Tescos offer on these which will enable you to try a box of each on the offer, making them 33.3p each which as I said before I think is very good for the quality of product that you are getting.
In case you need to know..
Of which sugars 21.6g
Of which saturates 10.1g
A while ago I did an order with Tesco's to be delivered to the cottage as Dave was away and I didn't have use of the car and our branch of Tesco's is not easy for me to get to otherwise!
Anyway amongst other things I had ordered a box of their equivalent of chocolate and nut Cornettos but when the order arrived they had been substituted for a box of Tesco Belgian Milk Chocolate ice creams. As always the man making the delivery gave me the option of either keeping the substitution or sending it back and I decided to keep them and give them a try.
Well the first thing to say is that it is nothing like the picture at the top of this review! I did give Dooyoo the link to the correct picture so where this one came from I don't know but never mind, it looks as though it is the same product.
The box is primarily brown to represent the dark chocolate of the ice creams inside. On the front is the label 'Mmmm.... 3 Belgian Milk Chocolate' together with a picture of two of the chocolate lollies one of which has a bite taken out of it to show the yummy vanilla ice cream inside.
The other information is that the box contains 'three individually wrapped vanilla ice cream lollies coated in Belgian milk chocolate' and that they contain 'no artificial preservatives, flavours or colours'. There is of course the now customary basic nutritional information expressed as a percentage of an adult's daily allowance and the logo to say that they are suitable for vegetarians.
The Ice Creams
I opened the box and found the three wrapped lollies as promised; I took one and put the others back in the freezer for another day.
I tore off the white, greaseproof wrapper and found a decent sized chocolate covered ice cream on a stick. The ice creams are in fact 120ml each.
I am not normally very keen on dark chocolate or Belgian chocolate for that matter - I am very much a Cadburys Dairy Milk girl! So with a little trepidation I took a bite of my ice cream and was very pleasantly surprised. The chocolate was rich and creamy but without the bitterness that I usually associate with dark chocolate. The vanilla ice cream inside was also creamy and the taste complimented the chocolate perfectly. It was sweet enough without being too sweet and the whole thing was really enjoyable.
A pack of three ice creams cost me £1.25 but there is a flash on the front of the packet which says 'buy 2 for £2' and since it is actually written on the packet I assume that it is an offer which is always there. Therefore, if you buy one box, the ice creams are almost 42p each but if you buy two boxes together they are just over 33p each. If you compare that to the price you pay for an individual ice cream these days you can see that these are a bargain!
The nutritional value of each ice cream is as follows:
Of which sugars 21.6g
Of which saturates 10.1g
Salt Just a trace
As you can see from the nutritional information these have to be just an occasional treat for me as I have type 2 diabetes but I have to say that I really enjoyed my substituted item and will be buying these ice creams again!
