      Only 40p

Tesco Ready To Serve Custard 425g

I love this custard, it is quite yellow in colour and really has a nice smooth texture and taste. It is a very good competitor in the custard wars as it is such a good price.

It costs only 40p for 425g, it comes in a cardboard tetra type pack and you just cut it open and serve it - either hot or cold. The pack is not resealable and this is a disadvantage if you only want custard for one person!

This Custard can be heated in the microwave and it is suitable for vegetarians.

One third of the pack contains 146 calories, 16.5g sugar, 4.3g fat and 0.2g salt - hence quite a high calorie custard but good for a treat as it really tastes good.

Made in a nut free factory so suitable for anyone with a nut allergy - very useful information.

Try it - it's only 40p so worth a go if you and your family like custard. Also would be suitable custart for a trifle because of the colour and texture!

A wonderful alternative to home-made custard

I am rather fond of desserts and a great favourite is baked puddings served with custard. I usually make my own custard, but occasionally I am in a hurry and like to have a box of long-life custard on stand-by for emergencies.

This past weekend my husband and I were invited to a BBQ and it was my task to provide dessert. When taking a hot dessert to a friend's house I prefer taking a box of long-life custard. My shopping trip to Tesco found me in front of the custards weighing up my options. I don't usually buy supermarket brand items, but decided to try the Tesco Custard.

I was very impressed with the taste. The custard can be served hot or cold. It has a great smooth and creamy texture. It is the right consistency . . . not too solid and not too runny. It is also not sickeningly sweet. Tesco custard made a great topping for my baked dessert and cost surprisingly little. A 1kg box costs a £0,85.

There is nothing special about the packaging, in fact it looks rather plain. The box is blue with a swirl of yellow custard along the bottom. The box is the sort that needs to have a bit cut off the corner in order to pour. 100g of custard has 103 calories with a fat content of 3g, of which saturates is 1.9g.
