Advantages: Tasty, Excellent quality for the price.

Disadvantages: Sponge layer is a little thin.

Introduction.
I purchased this trifle when I was in a 'I fancy something sweet' mood. I have tried and liked many Tesco Value products so it seemed to make sense to try a Value trifle ahead of any others.

Price and Availability.
I purchased the 450g family trifle for the measly sum of 98p. I found it alongside the other chilled family desserts, I could not see the individual trifles that others have mentioned but I suspect that these may have been in a different area- perhaps with the individual yogurts/desserts. As it is a Value product I would suspect that it will be stocked in most Tesco stores.

Packaging.
The trifle is supplied in a clear plastic bowl shaped container and is sealed with a clear film peel off lid. This enables the customer to see the product, I feel this makes the product look more appealing which is a bonus as the rest of the packaging fails to do so. Due to it being a Value product the necessary information (ingredients, use by date, instructions, warnings etc.) are presented in a basic way on a thin cardboard sleeve in the signature Red, White and Blue Value colour scheme. This isn't an issue to me but it may bother those who like good packaging along with good taste.

Product.
The product itself is very tasty. It has the signature four layers of a trifle. The first layer you come across is the cream. I quite like this layer, I expected it to taste quite artificial and 'airy' like squirty cream but I was surprised at how fresh this tasted. The main difference is that there isn't as much cream as on most trifles but I personally don't mind this. The next layer is the custard layer, always my favourite and did not let me down in this case. The custard is quite a substantial layer and it is quite thick and creamy with a good vanillary taste. The sponge layer is a disappointment, it isn't very thick at all, so much so that it is practically invisible and so I can't really comment on the taste. The final layer is the fruit jelly layer. This has a strong strawberry flavour and contains a few actual strawberries, this surprised me. I was not expecting this from such a cheap trifle. When combined the layers make an excellent tasting trifle for a really great price. The shelf life on my trifle lasted five days and it serves 4.

Overall this product is a great value everyday family dessert and I will definately buy this again in the future!

Summary: A good value sweet treat.
