“ Brand: Fredericks Dairies / Type: Ice Cream „
As I only have a small freezer I tend not to buy ice creams or lollies as they take up much needed room but when my boys saw these once they decided they wanted to try them, unfortunately I was not able to refuse as I quite liked the look and sound of them too!
The ice lollies come in a cardboard box which is the Vimto purple colour and has the Vimto logo splashed across the middle, there is a crazy pictures of all different types of fruit behind this and to the side is a picture showing 2 of the ice lollies. The side of the box have all of the product information and nutrition.
Inside the box are 8 individual wrapped lollies which come in a purple wrapper which have the Vimto logo down the front. The fact they are individually wrapped is a bonus as it means I can put them loose in the freezer and just slot them into the small spaces and gaps instead of having to put the whole box in there.
The lollies are lovely and are a must for all fans of the Vimto drink. They are a good size and I would estimate that they are 14cm long and about 2.5 cm think. They are a rich purple colour. The taste is lovely and it is very hard to pin point the exact fruit flavour which I can taste. Once the ice lolly start to melt in the mouth there is a slight fizz to the taste and this is lovely. I would say the flavour is more like the cordial juice than the fizzy variety but there is definitely a slight fizz when melting.
I think the only downside to the lollies is the amount of flavour. I personally would have liked this to have been slightly stronger as it did seem very watered down but my boys did not notice this and tucked straight into theirs.
The lollies do not melt straight away and even with slow eating children licking and sucking theirs they still stayed in a good shape and actually on the stick. If you do bite the lolly then it will come down to a battle of wills when it comes to the end as to whether the last bite stays on the stick or drops off but for me I find it hard to bite them so tend to suck them off the stick and have not had any fallen pieces.
The lollies do have a little crunch when bitten but they are not overly hard and when they have been out of the freezer for a few minutes they go nice and soft, therefore making biting them easier.
The lollies come in a box which contains 8, therefore making them a good family treat and maybe having one or two left over.
The box states that these have no artificial flavours and have been made with the secret Vimto flavour. I can agree with the flavour as they do taste just like Vimto cordial.
The ingredients for those wishing to know are:-
Water, sugar, Dextrose, Glucose syrup, Mixed fruit juices from concentrate 1.5% (Grape, Blackcurrant, Raspberry), Natural Colour (Anthocyannis), Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate), Stabilisers (Locust Bean Gum, Pectin), Vimto Flavouring (including natural extracts of fruit, herbs and spices)
There are some allergy warnings on the box and these include the fact the lollies contain traces of milk protein and may contain nuts. There is also the warning that these lollies may stain clothes but I have to say they have washed out of by boys tops when they have got the juice on their clothes.
The packaging and lolly stick can be recycled but the lolly wrapper which is plastic cannot.
The nutritional values for an individual lolly are:-
Energy - 38Kcal
Protein - Trace
Carbohydrate - 9.5g
Fat - trace
These values are very good for such a sweet treat so I don't have any worried giving them to my boys.
~~PRICE AND AVAILABLITY~~
I have to say I have not seen these for sale individually but only ever in boxes. I bought my box from Tesco and they were on offer for £1. I am not sure of the full price but I would say around £1.50-£2 would be an OK price for them. They can be bought in all good supermarkets.
I do recommended these ice lollies as they taste great. I have to drop one star and award them 4 as I would have liked a slightly stronger flavour personally. They have been a hit in my house and were a great price. They don't melt straight away so they are ideal for younger children who take forever to eat ice lollies. Well worth trying for the £1 offer price.
These were recommended to me by a lady in my local slimming world club. They are quite low in calories so I thought I would try them.
They come with 8 lollies in a box and I picked them up in Tesco for £1.
The description on the box is that they are mixed fruit flavour lollies with no artificial colours and they are made with the secret vimto flavour.
The lollies are about 7 or 8 inches in length and are quite thick. They are purple in colour and in my opinion taste just like Vimto! Now I am not a fan of Vimto but these are actually quite nice. They are strong in flavour and don't melt very quickly unlike other ice lollies.
The lollies are 45 ml in size and the calorie content is only 38 calories per lolly and the fat content is trace which I found great! They are a good size and you actually feel like you have eaten something yummy which when you are dieting is pretty important!
As I said earlier, they are full of flavour and are exactly like Vimto. They have a nice crunch when you bite into them and the lolly actually stays on the stick even when it begins to melt. The lolly melts in the mouth easily and leaves a great fizzy taste.
Just a word of warning, according to the allergy advice on the back of the box these lollies contain traces of milk protein and also nuts so be careful if you are allergic to these things.
I would definately recommend these, in fact I have already bought another 2 boxes- they are great if you are watching your weight but still want something tasty.
What with all this hot weather we're having, I fancied getting some ice lollies for the freezer so we could have one whenever we wanted. I actually fancied some Callipos, but the ice cream/lollies freezer section in our local supermarket looked like it had been ransacked and there wasn't a box of Callipos in sight. What did catch my eye were the big pile of Vimto Ice Lollies that were on offer at just £1 for a box of 8, so as I love Vimto (still or fizzy) I grabbed a box.
Vimto Ice Lollies are long and thin, a little like Mini Milk Lollies but longer. They are the usual Vimto colour, purple, but do they actually taste like Vimto?
Well, yes and no. I found that they do taste like Vimto (grapes, raspberries and backcurrant), but the taste isn't quite as strong a taste like the Vimto fizzy pop is, it's more of a weak squash taste, in my opinion. I find that 1 is never quite enough, but 2 are probably enough to satisfy that cold thirst. However, I think the size is more suited to kids than adults.
I don't like blackcurrant (I can tolerate it), but I've found that the blackcurrant isn't strong in Vimto and it's a delicious taste... I just wish these lollies had a stronger, juicer taste to them.
The one thing that I've found very handy with these ice lollies is that they seem to have quite a long stick. I've found with some ice lollies there's not much lolly stick sticking out at the bottom of the ice lollies and you often get sticky hands. However, the Vimto Ice Lollies have sufficient lolly stick sticking out at the base of the lolly that you don't get sticky hands. Also, I've yet to have melted ice lolly run down the stick and onto my fingers as I've always managed to eat them before that happens (without rushing).
So, all in all, Vimto Ice Lollies are OK and I'll look out for them if I can't find Callipos (after all, 8 lollies for £1 isn't bad!).
At the minute these Vimto ice lollies are only £1.00 for 8, that's in all the shops and supermarkets I've seen them in so I hope that's the proper price because these ice lollies are delish.
If you've ever had a drink of Vimto you can stop reading right now because these taste THE SAME as that..... EXACTLY the same!!!
They are shaped like Mini Milks and are a pure purple colour, they haven't got much of a smell when they first come out of the freezer but if you leave one to start melting you do get a nice fruity smell.
The taste is gorgeous, I even love them in this weather but I reckon in the summer these ice lollies will be perfect! They have got a bit of a berry flavour and just taste like Vimto pop, I can't remember exactly but I think Vimto is a mix of different fruit tastes like apple, strawberry, blackcurrant and all that sort of summery fruit. The lollies are dead refreshing and it's like having a drink when you eat one of these.
They have got a delish texture, they are quite brittle and feel nice to snap through with your teeth. They start melting a bit quick and are MAJORLY sticky if you get it on yourself, I don't keep hold of them for all that long though so that's not a big problem for me! lol
The lollies are very addictive, I'm not mad keen on ice lollies and I've already eaten 3 today! They're quite sweet but it's only the same as drinking a glass of Vimto, it's not madly sweet so that they get sickly but just right to be refreshing.
I'll deffo buy these ice lollies again, I'm going to get some tomorrow actually because it's shopping day and it's my turn so I get the pick of what goes in the trolley! lol
Recommended.... delish now and they'll be even better in summer!!!
