Walls Magnum Almond
Advantages: Taste great
I bought these yesterday as I fancied a little treat and something a little different from my usual Magnum whites. I remembered having liked these in the past, so I picked up a box of 3 in somerfield for £2.20. If you were to buy a single Magnum from an ice-cream van or kiosk though, it could cost you anywhere up to about £1.50!
The ice-cream comes in a foil wrapper which keeps it fresh and also stops it from melting too quickly, giving you a chance to do anything else you may need to do between getting it out of the freezer and eating it. The ice-cream is a lolly on a wooden stick, just like the traditional ice-lollies.
The stick is quite short and stubby and it doesn't run far through the ice-cream, which is much better in my opinion as it makes the ice-cream easier to eat as you're not always having to eat around the stick. Because the stick is shorter you may expect it would fall of the stick more easily, but I have not found this to be the case at all.
The ice-cream is coated in quite a thick layer of milk chocolate, which is extremely smooth and creamy, and tastes delicious. It tastes very high quality and not the sweet, candyish chocolate that you get with cheaper lollies. In this layer of chocolate are lots of almond pieces, which complement the chocolate really well and give it a lovely crunch when you bite into it. I'm not really a fan of almonds, but these do taste really nice with the chocolate.
The ice-cream is a really rich, creamy vanilla ice-cream, which is a nice soft texture. Despite the soft texture the ice-cream stays together really well and doesn't melt too easily, meaning you can eat it quite slowly and savour the flavour without ending up with it dripping all over you. The combination of the smooth, rich vanilla ice-cream, the creamy chocolate and the crunchy almonds is just heavenly.
We all know something this nice is going to be bad for us, and one of these ice-creams gives you 280 calories, 25g of sugar, and 18g of fat (11g of which is saturates). By no means a healthy snack, but this is one tasty indulgent treat that I actually believe is worth the damage.
Summary: A great sweet treat
