Disadvantages: None to my mind
Magnum ice cream is made by Walls and this particular version of Magnum can be purchased as either a single, three pack or is also found in the mini pack. I purchased a three pack and it cost me £1.14 on offer from Sainsburys but it normally retails at £2.29.
I have just sat down on the sofa and eaten the first in a pack of three Almond Magnums and it was delectable. The Almond Magnum is wrapped in a rather attractive bronze foil wrapper and has a decent sized wooden stick with which to hold the ice-cream. One of the things I like about Magnum other than the taste is the fact that you can eat it without requiring a kitchen towel as the chocolate holds well even when cracked and the ice-cream doesn't turn to mush on immediate contact with the room temperature.
The chocolate coating the ice-cream is thick and quite creamy reminding me of Swiss chocolate that I have had in the past and the almonds that impregnate the chocolate are lightly caramelised and have a wonderful texture in the mouth where after 2 chews they melt...yum. The ice-cream itself is vanilla but actually has vanilla bean in it which makes a nice change as many Vanilla ice-creams never make contact with actual vanilla only vanilla flavouring. The ice-cream is soft and silky and after consuming many of these ice-creams I can actually say hand on heart I have never suffered from brain-freeze where the only cure is either biting down on the stick your ice-cream came with or finding a hot drink to sip.
The only negative I could possibly think of is the calories/sugar/fat in one of these ice-creams which comes in at 280kcal, 25g (sugar), 18g (fat) which to some might seem excessive but personally I couldn't care less as if you're going to have an ice-cream and enjoy it you would expect it not to be the healthiest item in the world. As my ol gran used to say a little of what you fancy won't do ye nay harm lass.
Conclusion: Recommend for those of us who like almonds, chocolate and vanilla and aren't obsessed with calorie counting. NOT SUITABLE FOR NUT ALLERGY FOLK - pretty obvious but thought I should write it down just in case someone with a nut allergy thought "today I'm going to give almonds a go"
Summary: Yummy choc ice for grown ups
