Advantages: Can be purchased in a supermarket deal
Disadvantages: Size, taste, cost (when not on offer)
Doing my weekly shopping I spied these in the freezer section at Morrisons. Being an avid fan of the original Magnum ice creams, I was looking forward to that delicious treat that I'm used to but with a little bit more. I was already happy that they only cost me £1.79 as they were half price. I would not have paid full price for them especially as Magnum ice creams are on half price offers quite often.
Packaging:
The three lollies came in a box, as do the original Magnums, but this box had a posh foil wrapping around it. Upon opening this I found three more boxes to which I was quite surprised. These looked like little present boxes so I began to get excited .........
First impressions:
The first thing I noticed was the size, they were nearly half the size of the original bars!!!!! Immediately I was disappointed. Nevermind I thought, maybe it was because they were so tasty they didn't need to be as big.
The taste:
As soon as I took that first bite I noticed that the chocolate on the outside (which is my favourite bit) was half as thick as the originals. I was gutted! I then had the not so good sensation of a thick sickly chocolate sauce which was not nice at all. I was expecting delicious white chocolate chunks as described on the box. Yes they were present but didn't taste of anything!
The ice cream itself was not the creamy satisfying delight that I am used to. Instead it lacked taste and had an awful texture. There are supposed to be chocolate brownie pieces in the bar - there wasn't. The brownie was mixed in with the ice cream, in crumb size pieces, giving it a horrible texture.
Conclusion:
I did however finish it ....... I was not impressed and did regret eating it as I am trying to lose weight and it really was not worth it especially at 240 calories per bar! I will not buy these again and would opt for the original style Magnum bars as they are much tastier and worth the money as a treat were these are not.
