A guilty pleasure without piling on the extra pounds, yes I know that's what all of us girls want. I recently found these for £1.15 for 2 from Sainsbury's. Not only are these little diamonds sweet yet tangy but they are a fitting end to a meal. They are tangy, but light as a feather and I found myself dipping my spoon in searching for that last drop. It cleansed my palette as well and believe me when I say I have tried many a weight watchers dessert but this is up there with the best of them. I even managed to tempt my husband to have one and he enjoyed his even after he had demolished a roast dinner with 500 sprouts...basically I mean he was stuffed but because this was so light and fluffy like a 4lb bunny he squeezed it in and left with a smile - genius.
I found these in the fridge at home and so someone had obviously bought them on the last shopping trip. I'm not sure how much they cost per pack (there are 2 in a pack) although having done my research I think is around the £1.30 mark. To look at the mousse looks very artificial; the top is a white fluffy cream and the bottom is a smooth, pale pink colour. When I first tasted this mousse, I was quite shocked at how sickly-sweet it was. I have a very sweet tooth yet I found this to be a bit too sweet. However, I carried on ploughing through the cream on the top in order to get to the strawberry bit at the bottom. Whilst the bottom is not completely 'sharp' but has a sharper taste compared to the cream. It does taste a little bit like strawberries, yet still tastes artificial. I could still taste the strawberry a few minutes after I had finished eating the desert. The cream on the top is very light and has a very fluffy texture. Although it is very artificial. You only have to look at the ingredients list (below) to see how artificial is actually is. Ingredients Water, Sugar, Skimmed Milk Powder, Strawberry Jutce from Concentrate (4.5%), Modified Maize Starch, Gelatine, Glucose-fructose Syrup, Vegetable Fat, Stabilisers (Sodium Alginate, Pectin, Guar Gum), Glucose Syrup, Acidity Regulators (Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate), Emulsifier (E472b), Flavourings, Colours (Anthoycanins, Norbixin), Preservative (Potassium Sortate). There are 87 calories per pot and so this is good for those on a diet. There is a lot of sugar (7.6g per pot) however, and 1.3g of saturated fat. A pot will provide you with 3.0g of protein, 0.3g of fibre and 0.04g of sodium. So all, in all, it is low in fat - great if your on a diet, but judging by the ingredients list and the taste, it is full of chemicals. I have a huge appetite yet I was surprised that this desert was actually very filling even though it is only a mousse. I guess this is a good thing if you are on a diet. I would not recommend this desert unless you really like sweet deserts. Thanks for reading! October 2011 Xd-o-n-z-x / xdonzx
At the moment I'm on a bit of a healthy eating regime. I've been eating far too much unhealthy foods and eating at the wrong time etc and have gone up from a size 8 to a size 10 over the past month or so. I realise writing that it doesn't seem much but I'm at my most comfortable being a size 8 and now I'm in trouble cos I'm bursting out of my clothes! Having originally lost about 6 stone with Weightwatchers (to get to size 8) I decided to simply go back on the regime as its one I am very familiar with, just for a while at least and I can follow the plan with my eyes closes and my brain switched off with total ease! However I know when healthy eating how important it is to vary my diet and the things that I eat or I lose interest fast. I wouldn't say I particularly have a sweet tooth but when I was on Weightwatchers before I usually sat down and had some sort of dessert to finish off my meal so when I spotted these in a pack of 2 costing £1.38 in Asda I decided to give them a go! The Packaging: Well the 2 pots comes in a cardboard sleeve that tears off with ease. On the front and on the top of the sleeve there is a photograph of the mousse and some strawberries and I'm told that they are Weightwatchers Strawberry & Vanilla Mouse 'A soft duo of strawberry and vanilla low fat mousse' and I'm told they contain 1 1/2 points per pot. Other information given on the sleeve includes the best before date being clearly stamped on and the size is stated (160g, 2x80g), ingredients and allergy advice is listed as is a full nutritional chart and contact details for Yoplait are given (the manufacturer of the product). The pots are tall and clear plastic with a pull off silver foil backed lid and on that, again I'm told what it is, how many points are in it and the best before date is clearly stamped on. The Mousse Itself: Through the pot your can see 3/4 of the pot is filled with a mousse looking light pink mixture and then sat on the top of that an off cream coloured looking mousse is there. Peel back the lid and you get a real smell of strawberries to it which is really natural and fresh. The texture of the mousse is really light and fluffy. Dig your spoon in and you come out with both pink and creamy coloured mousse and both me and my flatmate had one of these each and felt it sort of tasted like a marshmallow (well at least a pink coloured one!). Yes the pink mousse tasted of strawberries but it really was sugary and the creamy coloured mousse did taste lightly of vanilla and on the whole this was a rather moist and creamy offering but with only one let down..... It was incredibly sweet. too sweet. I mean to be fair not in an artificial sweetener way and it doesn't leave any weird after-taste after consumption but for me and my flatmate we just felt it was totally overpowered by sweetness though the flavours were good! Verdict: If you like really sweet desserts that are not unhealthy this could be for you. For me however it got sickly fast and I wouldn't want to consume it again to be honest with you! Nutritional Information Per Pot : Energy: 87 Kcal Protein: 3.0g Carbohydrate: 14.5g of which sugars: 7.6g Fat: 1.9g of which saturates: 1.3g Fibre: 0.3g Sodium: 0.04g Available in all good supermarkets etc.
I have been doing Weight Watchers online for a few weeks now and am working my way through lots of their ready meals, sauces and desserts. I purchased this dessert from Asda where they are currently on offer at 2 for £2 along with a few other Weight Watchers Desserts. ~ Packaging & Instructions ~ The strawberry and vanilla mousse are in packs of 2 and are found in the chilled section and come in tall, clear plastic pots with foil lids and a cardboard outer packaging. The cardboard outer has a picture of a spoon full of the mousse along with a few scattered strawberries which looks very tasty! On the back is all the various Weight Watchers information such as contact information and points values, nutritional information and ingredients. When you want to eat one of these mousses you simply remove from your fridge, peel the lid off and away you go. No waiting around required. ~ My Opinion ~ Described on the box by Weight Watchers as 'A soft duo of strawberry and vanilla flavour low fat mousse'. When I peeled back the foil lid from my pot of mousse I instantly noticed how delicious and sweet it smelt. Most of the mousse is the pink strawberry and there is a vanilla layer on the top which looked nice and fluffy. I love mousse desserts as long as they are not too thick and heavy like some of the value mousses you can buy. This mousse was very light with a nice fluffy texture with a lovely tangy strawberry taste to it and it is not in the slightest bit sickly tasting. I really enjoyed this dessert but it is not very filling at all and I could easily have eaten another one even after I had just had my dinner too! They are great if you need to eat something sweet though... which I do a lot. I really enjoyed these mousses and will definitely be buying them again next time I see them on offer. ~ Boring Bits ~ The Weight Watchers Strawberry and Vanilla Mousse has 1.3g of saturated fat and 87 calories per 80g pot.. Each pot is 1.5 points if you are following the Weight Watchers diet. Nutritional Information (per pot): Energy kJ: 364kj kcal: 87kcal Protein: 3.0g Carbohydrate: 14.5g of which sugars: 7.6g Fat: 1.9g (of which saturates): 1.3g Fibre: 0.3g Ingredients Water, Sugar, Skimmed Milk Powder, Strawberry Jutce from Concentrate (4.5%), Modified Maize Starch, Gelatine, Glucose-fructose Syrup, Vegetable Fat, Stabilisers (Sodium Alginate, Pectin, Guar Gum), Glucose Syrup, Acidity Regulators (Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate), Emulsifier (E472b), Flavourings, Colours (Anthoycanins, Norbixin), Preservative (Potassium Sortate).
Weight Watching is hard, whether you're attending meetings, following the plan alone, or just trying to maintain weight. I've been at it on and off for two years now, mainly on for the entirety of the past year, and there have been times where I've felt like giving up. My problem is that I like to snack. I like all things laden with sugary goodness (or badness, if you're watching your weight..) and crave desserts almost constantly. Finding something low fat and tasty to soothe my needs can be tricky, but thankfully Weight Watchers provide me with numerous sweet treats that leave me feeling satisfied and keep my sugar demons at bay. These Strawberry and Vanilla Mousses are one of them! Weight Watchers has fast become a favourite with men and women alike all over the UK that need a helping hand to lose a few pounds, or reach a long term goal. Most 'Weight Watchers' choose to attend meetings that are local to you to help you keep on track with your weight loss and provide you with tips and ideas on making changes to your day to day diet. Weight Watchers also supply the supermarkets, grocery stores and corner shops with edible food products that are low in fat and calories to help with your personal weight loss, meaning it is not compulsary to attend meetings (if you have the will power) - I don't, and I'm doing just fine! I picked up these Weight Watchers 'Strawberry and Vanilla Mousse' in Asda for £1 a pack. They're usually a little bit more expensive than this, but Weight Watchers yogurts and chilled desserts seem to be forever on offer in supermarkets for £1 a pack, or 2 for £2.50 on the larger yogurt pack products. At £1 a pack, it's a weight loss bargain for me, so I make sure I stock well up on these products when they're on offer. These 'Strawberry and Vanilla Mousse' can be found in the chiller section of all good supermarkets. They're located in the yogurt aisle and are generally to be found somewhere between the yogurts and the chilled mini single serving desserts along with the rest of the Weight Watchers yogurt/chilled dessert range. I've seen these stocked in Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsburys so they're not entirely difficult to get your mitts on! Weight Watchers 'Strawberry and Vanilla Mousse' come in 2 packs and are housed in a cardboard sleeve which is open at either end allowing you to see the product within. The front/top of the cardboard sleeve tells you exactly what the product is - Strawberry and Vanilla mousse - below the recognisable Weight Watchers logo. The sleeve has a large photograph of a spoon containing a lovely whipped dollop of the product itself surrounded by super fresh looking strawberrys which dominates most of the space. This photo alone is enough to sell the mousses to you, all frothy and light and begging to be purchased! Yum. The front of the packaging also tells me at a glance that there are only 1.5 points in a single pot of mousse, which makes purchasing these sweet treat desserts even more attractive! The back of the cardboard sleeve houses all the usual information you would find on dessert products, especially those that fall under the Weight Watchers brand - ingredients, nutritional information, storage methods, contact information and finally the bardcode. Everything you need to know, and probably won't ever read! (Unless you're looking for the contact details in which to send a letter of complaint to the heads of Weight Watchers to rant about how suprisingly tastily addictive these mousses are!) The mousse itself is packaged inside slender, tall transparent plastic pots - somewhat similar to a minature sundae glass to look at - meaning the product can be seen within the plastic pots, and from either end of the cardboard packaging. The top of the pot is sealed with a foil lid which has the same spoon and mousse photograph printed on the top. From the outside you can see that the mousse is layered, the bottom being a lovely baby pink in colour, and the top being a rich looking creamy colour. I must say, for a mousse these things sure look mighty tasty! Upon peeling back the foil lid the cream layer is peaked into little points ontop as if it were piped on like cream would be. I find this rather cute, but it doesn't stop me diving in quickly everytime and devouring the contents within moments! Both the cream and pink layers of mousse are soft, fluffy and frothy in texture. Once in the mouth the mousse creates an almost melting sensation. The fluffy texture is pleasant on the tongue and light enough to be enjoyed thoroughly. For the record, I'm not a fan of thick mousse, especially the chocolate flavour ones I used to eat as a child that have a thick, gloopy consistancy and clog your mouth up as they refuse to be swallowed! Yuck! The smell given off by these mousses is divine. The whole pot smells absolutely delicious - creamy and rich with a lovely strong, sweet strawberry scent. It's a shame they don't make a bath/body product that smells like this because it is close to heavenly (however this is coming from a woman who is desperate to get her hands on anything sugary, sweet and delicious!). I do love the smell of strawberry, and this mousse never lets me down. The scent is very sweet, but not too overpowering. There comes a point where 'sweet' becomes 'sickly' - but these do not overstep the mark on that front. Strawberry scents that are overpowering and sickly give me a mighty headache, but these are just right! I spoke about how fabulous the light, foamy texture is on the tongue, but the taste is somewhat of a marvel! I hate those strawberry desserts that are out there that carry a synthetic almost mechanically processed taste. Ugh! Chemical strawberriness does not tick the boxes for me. I need sweet and fresh! And the mousse definately delivers. The pink layer is a heavenly creamy strawberry flavour that is strong, but not too overpowering. The creamy layer is just that - creamy! Sweet and light again with no overpowering chemical flavour - just pure delight for the tastebuds! I will make a point of saying that these 'Strawberry and Vanilla Mousse's are definately not filling in anyway - they're not going to stop you feeling hungry as they are so light, but they do make a fantastic snack, pudding after a heavy meal or sweet treat. They are light enough to follow a meal, but substantial enough to stand alone. I choose to eat these mousses if I've eaten a large meal at night but want a sweet little something to follow, or as a snack between meals. They definately don't fill a gap, but they do curb the urge to munch on all things bad and sugary! The only downside of this product for me is that they don't seem to last me two minutes! I can have eaten the whole pot within a minute or two and then wonder where it went. As I said, they don't fill a gap, and with them being so light it is easy to devour them swiftly. I'd suggest taking it slow and savouring every spoonful - *note to self: follow own suggestions..* For 1.5 Weight Watcher points you can't really go wrong with these! Whether you're following the Weight Watcher way, trying to lose a few pounds alone, or simply looking for a low calorie sweet treat, these mousse pots are fantastic!
