I am sure some people will be shocked to find out that in this Canton women were not allowed in 1991 and this was a fater a very lenght battle which went all the way up to the Higest National Court. Appenzell is also the nale of the main village, with a population of approximatively 5,000 souls. If you can visit the region on any non weekend day, particularly not in summer, you will feel you are in a different world. Appenzell is composed by 2 semi Cantons (this is a part of Switzerland) , Inner Appenzell and Outer Appenzell. People from this region are often quoted in jokes, I do not want to be seen as racist, but in the same way we have many jokes about the Irish, so the Swiss have them about the people in this region, and the main reason for this is that they are seen as the most rural part of the country.
